inner/outer tie rod removal ?

inner/outer tie rod removal ?

Hope this makes sense, but is it possible to disconnect the inner tie rod from the outer tie rod without first disconnecting the outer tie rod from the knucle arm?

I need to replace the tie rod boot on my 98 4Runner and it would be alot easier if I could just leave everything attached and just disconnect the tierods.

You need to remove the nut and detach the outer tierod from the spindle (far right) before the inner tierod (far left inside the steering boot) can be unscrewed. Then you can cut the clamps, pull back the boot and remove the inner part of the tierod. The issue may be that you need to unscrew the inner tierod from the adjustment collar because the smaller end of the boot will not fit over the inner tierod. I don't know since I have not had to do mine.
