Think that's the only tacoma in Iceland. It's a light but powerful truck.

They say there that they are going to lift a little bit on suspension, so it's going to be higher. Think its a while since that was, and they have completed it.

I don't know why but I love those arctic snow trucks. I think they just appeal to my inner child . They are like big show trucks except that these actually serve a purpose which is why I allow myself to like them.

They are made this way for a single purpose.. to travel into the Icelanic highlands and glaciers in snow and heavy waters.

But the looks might be equally important...

Those are nice rigs. I wonder whether they are capable of playing in the rocks though. I like how they have massive rubber on them and little or no lift. I am running 38.5" tires on my 87 and it has a lot of lift to clear them.

Just cut as much out of the fenders so the tires will fit.. And then add some lift and fender flares, new diffs and so on..

I guess these trucks are better in many scenarios.. just because of the larger tires, and less hight/lift = BALANCE .. the balance point is lower. We have rocky situations here too.

There are many modded for 44" here as well as 38", usually the trucks that are over 2.5 tons are 44" and those 1.7-2.5 tons on 38"

i notice that the first truck has the 2.4 with 38's and 5.29 gearing. do they change the axles at all for those tires, and how do the 5.29's do pushing 38's?
i like the idea of big tire with minimal lift and you guys do it very well. any of those converted over to a solid axle or do they just run ifs? im sure articulation is needed in some cases. also, where do you get your fender flares from?

The bigger tires are more popular since they have a bigger footprint.. and even bigger when deflated. So the truck can "float" on the snow.

Some are running IFS (mine is) and other are solid axle(Diesel models have that standard) If you want to use 44" you have to have a solid axle.. 38" is the max for IFS. Some have also converted to solid axle.

I had another post here with MANY links to companies here that make those fender flares and other stuff. Just do a search for the post.. don't remember . I posted it just a few days ago.

If you look at tire ads, 38s seem to be about the smallest diameter tire that offers really wide sizes, like 16/38. That may be why it's so popular.

RE: 38s w/ 5:29s, I ran 38 swampers for a while. Hated the tires (3rd set of swamps I've played with - hated them all, will probably never consider another set,) but the power with 5:29s was fine, almost comparable to stock. (37s is probably exactly comparable to stock.)
