I want a paint job
#4
I wouldn't change colors if it were me. All the doors, door jams, hood, engine compartment, etc will be a different color and it will scream out "I've been half-assed repainted". Unless of course you want to pay to have all those areas painted too.

LOL... instead of changing colors, it would be cheaper for you to buy a black 2nd gen and sell the white one. besides, a GOOD paint job (changing colors and doing the door jambs - not the engine compartment) will be at least $3k to $4k with prep work.

I've done Maaco jobs and they usually do a decent job for the price. Prep is key, the more you do the better it will be, and you can get their "better' job and get a good primer/sealer and a more durable paint for around $400. The comments about changing the color are spot on though - they don't do jambs and stuff for that price, (and forget under the hood! even my orange flame job is still stock blue in the engine compt) A decent paint job at a body shop will start at 2 grand or so, changing colors complete with door jambs etc will start at around 3k and can go way higher...
If you want a serviceable job (not show quality) on abudget, you can do your own door jambs and stuff first, then take it to Maaco. It's a bit of work but not outside most people's abilities.

Take a class at in autobody. That's how I painted my 1978 F-250 and my bro-in-laws old bronco II.
I changed the colors on both of them, and painted everything, under the hood, door jams, etc. The cost for paint and supplies alone was over $1,000 for each car.

People just don't believe what good paint costs. Imagine what 10 distinct shades of House of Kolor cost? Plus lots of clear...
