i ordered the 3" pro ultimate lift from toytec.com and its on the way... i feel like a father waiting for a baby to be delivered... should i get your standard all terrain or some badass looking mud terrain tires (im only gonna use my truck at the ĊĊĊĊty powerlines and maybe some mud here or there unless i can find some good trails)

 

I just bought some mud Terain SXTs today from Less Schwab and I am very plesed with the on road performance as well as the aperance. I havn't taken them off road yet but as agresive as they are, I'm sure they are going to be sweet. They ran me $750 for 4 31X10.5 on 16' Rims all said and done. They are very quiet on the highway too.

 

Congrats... you'll be pleased with the way your truck looks lifted! I get compliments all the time while at gas stations, stop lights, etc. I went with the bad ass M/T for my tires. There was no question. Just makes it look a lot beefier! I have the Firestones and so far LOVE THEM! I has ProComps and liked them alot too, but my Firestones are way quieter and provide a smoother ride. Much like I think an A/T would feel like. Whatever you decide, be sure to put some photos up of the before and after. And while you're at it, why not order a YOTATECH.COM sticker for your rig! I went with the BFG muds and was surprised how poorly they do on wet concrete. I'm leaning on getting the BFG ATs or the Revos. If you do get the muds be sure to get the tires siped. Every little bit will help.

 

I have yoko A/T's on my 4R now and I love them. When it came time to buy new tires (get 5 for a match!) it is a huge investment, and I did some soul searching. I really do spend most of my time on pavement, so I stayed with A/T's (The yokos, by the way, are actually very good offroad, too). I get my mud terrain fix satisfied with my FJ40, though.

Be honest with yourself. If you spend more time on pavement, you may love muds there, but they will wear down faster, louder more vibrated ride, wear unevenly, and there will likely be a point where you cannot keep them round or balanced. Is this what you want out of a $800+ investment? Some people are willing to accept that, and that is fine. More power to them! It IS cool - no doubt, but just as yourself the question....

 

Muds do vibrate more, wear unevenly, and are hard to balance but I have to say that mine have lasted me quite a while... over 50K so far and it looks like I can go at least another 15K.
Then again I am using the stock tires as a basis of comparison and those pieces of crap only last me 30K

 

I was trying to decide on which tire to buy a couple months. I went to tirerack.com and studied and soul-searched and studied. I am an analytical/practical guy (damn engineering school), and went with the numbers. Hard to argue with the Revos.

 

i think i might get the Firestone Destination M/T... they seem really good and fairly priced

 

Firestones ROCK! That's what I just bought. Got about 200 miles on them so not much in the way of a solid review, but they seem good!

 

Good choice, im getting my 285/75/16 Firestone Destination M/T's installed next week, cant wait to get them out on the trails and see how they perform. I've only heard great things about them, plus I got them for a decent price (175 ea.)

 

Where did you get them? I got them for $158/ea plus shipping. Came out to around $175.50 each from TireRack.com If you want to see them right off the UPS truck, check out this thread when I got mine!!! Also, watch out for rubbing if you have your running boards on. I had to take mine off before I even got on the freeway since the lugs almost ripped them right off. I have 3.5" lift and am ordering a 2" BL to clear them for wheelin'! It's all in that thread. Good luck!

so basically if i put 285/75r/16 on my tacoma with a 3" suspension lift itll probably still rub?

 

You should be fine actualy. I removed my runner boars so I should have enough clearance for the larger tires. Plus i'm installing my OME lift kit this comming week. I'll let you know how it works out for me.

Oh and btw, im getting them for $175 localy, i didnt want to have to worry abot ordering them. The shop im getting them from already has them in stock. Thanks for the info though!
