i got a windshield crack = (

Freakin city maintainence crew taking forever on repaving the streets. One night driving home from work i was following another vehicle on a unpaven road, it was like roughed up for i guess new asphalt? Well a pebble laid a rice grain sized crack on my windshield. Could i get the city to pay for it? or am i on my own on this.

Yup, should be covered by insurance without even paying your deductible.

Don't bother with insurance. Just get a cheap kit from an auto store. There's NO way you will get anyone to pay for that.

Here in CO there are makeshift places all over at spots such as shopping centers.
I recently had a pebble hit my windshield on the freeway that put a "starfish" crack in it but i got it fixed for $25
If i had full coverage, then it would have been FREE but taken a few minutes longer so they could make a phone call to my insurance company.

Call some autoglass places and i bet they'll do the same.

i dunno how it is in other states but in MA its considered part of your coverage. I guess some states could make it an option to purchase glass but out here it gets replaced w/ no deductible.

If you want to get the windshield replaced, I'd definately wait til after winter! On cold days, hot defrost can make a small crack or chip crack across the length on the windshield. Plus, they put gravel and stuff on the roads after it snows so it might get cracked again.

some ins coverages will include x amount of windshield replacement (part of your coverage). I'd call and ask otherwise, do the Tacoma dude route as that stuff really works wonders!

Actually its an optional part of our insurance coverage.

You must have the comprehensive (sp?) section, I found this out the hard way! 300+ for a windshield replacement!!

While I was on the phone with my insurance company about my rig getting keyed I asked them about the windshield policy too just cause I was curious. They said 95% of the time, full coverages will take care of windshield replacement for free as long as it was due to a road hazard.

My friend had a chip (no crack) and the poly whatever seemed to fill it in pretty well. I actually never saw for myself how good it looked but he was pretty happy with it.

If its a chip, the faster you fix it, the better it will probably look. Over time, small dirt and other materials get in the hole showing up after the repair. Plus, it the chip starts to run, your window is toast.

I've used these type of repair kits before. Have yet to have a crack spread. Unfortunately, my chips were old before I repaired them. I would say better than 50% of the damage disappeared after the repair. It is sort of a super glue that you force in under pressure. The clean cracks seam to disappear totally, but any place that the glass is not cleanly broken, that will still be visible.

Also if available look for better quality glass like the stuff from PPG. My Runner has 5 years and 85k on the PPG glass with no cracks, yes,it's pitted like crazy but no cracks at all.
