Thanks guys: Your advice and tips finally paid off.

Last Friday night, literally on my way to purchase a black '99 SR5 w/48k miles for $16k, I logged on to the internet for one last look, and came across a local Toyota dealer, advertising a 2000 SR5, again in Black, with many options and only 27k miles, for $19k.

Well, armed with all the cool tips you guys passed on to me, I hustled out to see what I believed would be a classic bait and switch operation.

Boy was I wrong. I'm now the PROUD OWNER of that beautiful truck!!!

The dealer in question, a huge Toyota operation in NJ, wanted to move the truck quickly. In short: PERFECT condition. Always serviced by that dealership. Owned by the proverbial little old lady (she and I spoke for half an hour before I bought it. She said it never had any problems, but at 59 and retiring from teaching, she traded it for a Camry. She even blessed it for me.)

TOYOTA finally brought the price down to an insane $16.8k. The odometer was also confirmed by the woman. TOYOTA redid the brakes and gave the truck a 30k tuneup, then gave me an additional 4 year/48k bumper to bumper warranty (tacked onto the 27k miles, not concurrent= to 75k miles) for $995.

They detailed the truck for me and I was off. My 8 year old boy and my wife almost passed out when they saw it. We drove several hundred miles to our country house in total bliss.

Now i I can land me a 96 or 97 4x4 for about 9K or 10K I will be right up there with you in the happiness stratusphere(sp). Good luck, and get ready to lift her soon, you know you want too .
