Turned out good eh? Did you use Hi-temp silver or gloss enamel?

Can anybody tell me how to take out the plug that is connected to my window switches because I want to paint the black part but I couldn't get the plugs out to take out the window controls and I didn't want to break it, is there a place I have to press or something???

Hey Sleepy. Reason I asked is (I mentioned before) Hi Temp paint does not hold up well in high contact areas. It is a 'flat' finish...prone to rubbing smears and dirt...like flat house paint. A gloss urethane (sold in spray) will hold up much better. Under the speedo glass is a safe place for Hi Temp...anywhere else will not hold up for long. My console and shifter plate still looks good, but I'm real carerfull. The armrest controll panel would get dirty IMO if painted Hi Temp. Maybe experement with a clear acrylic gloss to use over the silver? Also, since you are doing 'permanent' color changes, use 000 or0000 steel wool to scuff the plastic for better paint adhesion. Good luck.

Hey butnut,

Do you have pics (or can you take some) of your console and interior area? I want to see all the things you painted silver and think about how it would look in mine.

Hey Al. This pic shows all I painted (not shown is the gauge pod)...one more on my site. Jasons CF kit covers most of the plastic quite nicely and would show much more silver if I did not have it...like the new Runners with the silver painted plastic trim. I think mine is Ninja sweet. You could make someone very happy if you traded your wood panels for the grey..since you're gonna paint it anyway...let me know if you want specific pics or any more info.

Thx butnut, it looks great. Hey, you've got the same cell phone as me! Great minds think alike...

That's a brighter silver than I've seen before, it's not the hi-temp is it? Is that the 'gloss urethane' you referred to?

It's the Hi Temp. With the flash, there is no reflection, the carbon fiber gets the wet look. I saw the Toyota silver panels. It's a low gloss, but it has some gold tone to it....pretty, but I like the aluminum look. Same phone eh? Can you see butnut on my screen? I should update the pic..I got the white face AC panel now...looks good with the Indi's.

Well basically I was either going to see how it turns out I figured it might get scratched up and stuff but the thing is that the console area and where I already painted isn't smooth to touch, it is already has texture to it. I've rubbed it with my fingers and so far so paint has rubbed off, I did buy clear stuff to spray on to make it shiny but I haven't experimented to what it would look like if I put a layer of that on the shifter surround. I wanted to paint center console, cup holder area, all door controls and anything else that I could remove silver, but I have a feeling by the cupholders and brake area it would get scratched up because I have my phone and keys and stuff in that pocket by the cupholders. I will let you know what I will do. I was either going to put the glossy stuff on OR just get a dash kit, but paint it silver to that the whole thing would be silver not just the flat pieces I hope I am making sense.

Makes sense. The kit only covers the top surfaces, not sides. Your avatar looks good BTW. The Hi Temp will not hold up in those areas by the cup holders. Too much contact. I would use urethane. The only drawback is it takes very long to dry. To make it durable, at least 4-5 coats with at least 2 hours dry time between coats and a good day or two undisturbed in sunlight for final curing. Meaning, not installed in your truck...it is probably the most durable spray for this application next to a body/paint shop using plastic specific spray products. My thoughts, do it once, do it right. Good luck. It still is paint and will never be as durable as molded in color. Don't forget to use the steel wool to scuff the plastic first.

Sleepy,

Didn't think about it sooner but I'm going to redo your avatar for you tonight and edit out the orange time numbers on the bottom right corner. And I'll brighten it up a little so it's not quite so dark.

Brian, what is that round thing next to your phone in the picture. By the way, I did not know you painted that much of your interior. I thought that it was just the gauge surround. That looks real real good! Nice work! I like it alot! :fireman:
