All,

here is a simple question : how do I replace the rear view mirror? Moreover how do I remove it? There are two screws, but cannot get the mirror out. I have a 2000 4-runner.

its glued to the windshield, at least a little metal tab that the mirror locks onto is.

 

Unscrew the screws and slide the mirror off of the plate that is glued to the windshield.

 

is it windshield mounted??

my stock one wasnt. if i remember correctly, to get it out you have to do this:


first grab your flat head screwdriver, and look for the two little notches in the trim where the maplights are located. stick the flathead in and gently push up and in to loosen the plastic cover over the maplights. just be careful here because you can end up scraping the plastic trim.


once you have the cover off, find the screw that holds the entire maplight console in and unscrew it. using a minor amount of force, pull the unit out toward you. it should drop right down. you'll notice it's able to hang as is by the wiring harness.
