How to remove welded on sliders?

Easy enough. My sliders are welded on, and now that I am selling the runner they must come off so I can put the running boards back on.

Any idea how to do this? I dud use "scab plates" so the tubes are welded to those, which are welded to the frame. I assume that would be the best cut point.

Sucks I NEVER got to use them. Dammit.

Sawsall.. and a 4" grinder.. IMHO, I would leave the plates on. It will be better strength wise if you just leave them, than if you take them off. I would cut the tubes with a sawsall, and then grind any left over tube down to the plates, clean the area with a wire brush good, hit it with a light coat of primer and undercoat the whole side of the frame rail.. The running boards should hide a good portion of it.. However, I would try to get some road dirt on the fresh undercoating to make it look better..

I think your only answer is a cutting torch or a cutoff wheel on a grinder.

Once you get them rough cut, then you'll need to grind the rest smooth in order for the slder to fit back into that space.

I have a side suggestion... What about selling the 'Runner with them on?

I might end up doing that, but I am not sure what a buyer might think of them. Running boards are for 90% of the 4runner owners out there.

It's going to be hard to convince someone that I never took this runner offroad if I have sliders. The truth is, the last time I took it off road was also the first time. That was Crown King when the runner was still stock. About a year ago!

I doubt they'll know what they are. They'll just think they're nerfbars. Besides, you can always be honest with them and say it's only been off road once and you never got a chance to go much. There aren't any dents of scares underneath that would indicate heavy off road use.

Very true. Then I could sell the running boards on ebay for $150-$200 w/o any CUTTING!

Hey Dan... I thought of another reason to leave them on.

If you cut them off, by nature you'll be losing some of the material from the tubes at the attachment points. That can really make it hard to ever use them again without hacking an extension onto the end of the tubes.

That could put you in a spot where you'll lose money by cutting them off. If you leave them on, and point out that "All the cool trucks have these things" then you won't lose the investment in the cost of the sliders. Plus, you'll still have the the running boards to make some side cash.
