how to remove overload leaf

im doing the chevy swap right now. i cant figure out how to get the overload leaf off the chevy springs. when you spin the nut there is a circular cap that spins with it. there is no way to stop the circular cap from spinning.

You have to cut that pin out and replace it. It will seperate the pack. Use a grinder and watch your toes.

VEry good idea to put some stout clamps on the springs before you do that. Some spring packs pop apart with enough force to seriously mess you up.

If you are talking about the center pin/bolt holding the spring pack together, a pair of vise grips works well, as mentioned above. Just grab the round end of the center pin with them.

thank you i got some vice clamps and it worked fantastic.

next question: how can i get the original leafs out of the shackle/hanger? i have tried hitting it with a mallet, and alos tried prying the other side w/ a huge screwdriver. neither of which worked at all. ideas?

Perhaps you could clarify what you are having trouble with. It sounded like you were having trouble removing the bolt from the spring hanger, but apparently it is something else.
