Paid $13,700 for my Highlander a year ago and I've been able to hold off the major mods but I've still managed to put over $1000 with a HU,amp and sub being most of it and a few bling items but I can add about $700 more for full brake job and rear axle seals.
Next up is springs/shocks and tires.

Bought my '98 back on St. Patrick's Day of 2004.
Bone stock, well maintained and had only 75K miles on it. Paid only $12,600 out the door, private party. The dealership I took it to get checked out said they would pay me $14,500 for it and sell it for $18,000. Maybe I should've and then used the extra to get my 4x4. Hindsight is always 20/20.
Since then, put $2,000 in suspension/lift, $1,400 wheels/tires, $1,200 in stereo/video and probably another $1,000 or so in miscellaneous crap (lights, windows, etc). Grand total so far is roughly $18,000+

$2,750 bone stock from private party 6 months ago. He was asking $3,000 but i made an offer and he took it. Since then i've spent almost $4,000 in mods/parts and still counting but the odd thing is, it almost looks worse now than when i bought it

Bought the wife's 2001 runner with 29k miles in 2003 for $20,500, and for $4,450 bought my 93 with 120k miles in 2004...put in close to $3000 for the 93, but the costs for the 2001 runner has been just regular maintenance

I Paid $9,000
Two weeks ago, I bought my second 4Runner. A 2000 SR5, 3.4, auto, 2wd in very good condition, with 117,000 miles. It runs as good and the ride is as solid as most new cars I have riden in. No squeaks or rattles. It does seem to suffer from the fuel gage problem. The tank showed empty, and I filled it up with 13 gallons. The paint has a few bumps and bruises but all in all I am very happy with it. My last Toyota was a 1985 4WD that I kept for years and was very pleased with. I ended up paying about $9,000 for it at a Toyota dealership.

I paid $8,400 for my 4runner 4wd Limited last year, and it had 72,000 miles. I got it cheap, because the guy was a lawyer, who had just bought a NSX and his wife told him to get rid of the 4runner. Because his NSX car payments were coming. I love the 4runner, only wish I found one with factory locker.
