249,842 miles
That's right, 249,842 miles and it looked fine too, no cracks or visible defects. visual inspection at 175,000. Changed it due to concern about lifespan of internal chords. Replaced 2 weeks ago. Original owner, 150 mi. each workday, 02 taco 3.4 L.
I have seen dozens go 170,000 plus as a toyota master tech.

Zero!!!
Just finished changing it. (My first T-Belt change!!) It looked perfect, as did everything else. But after 10 years and 117,151 miles I wanted some piece of mind. Also did both idlers, tensioner, and drive belts and coolant hoses. I had the cam and crank seals ready to go but they looked perfect, too. I'll get them in 2019. (I hope I can find the crank pulley holder I built yesterday!)
I was more worried about the WP than the belt. It seems no one reports a TB failure without an associated WP failure. If I had it to do over, I would have waited to 140-150K. Since I replaced all moving parts on the TB, I may not do it again until 2023 or so

Oh, yeah, I have 122K on my beast and she is getting ready for the full work-up real soon... all belts & pulleys, hoses & water-pump. Just got done having that dealership perform a full brake job (F&R) with new rotors, TPS, O2 sensor, real axle seal (L/S was SHOT), cats and exhaust for $1,300.00 - Not a bad deal!
Not sure what they'll charge for the timing belt, etc... let me know what they tell you, if you happen to call them for the work.

Even though I had the parts and wanted to do this myself, I had mine replaced at the nearest Toyota dealership last month. A recent lower back surgery meant I had no desire of leaning over the front of the truck for hours on end.
171,500 miles. Original everything and I purchased the truck new. The tech mentiioned that the waterpump had quite an accumulation of stuff on it...

190k 2002 Tacoma 4x4 DBL.. Original Owner , Use Mobil One synth. only from day one, all other maintenance done ahead of schedule... I never drive over 65 most of the time I run at 1900 RPM
Except for Timing Belt and Water Pump....
After reading this thread and talking to a master toyota tech, I am going to wait until 250k with the way I drive my truck and age of my truck... I think I ll take my chances, and bet the belt and pump make it..
I can not begin to tell everyone how awesome their advice and help on this forum is. I am thankful for the input given....

I guess I've got the record so far. Bought my '96 4Runner new 13 years ago; changed the original timing belt at 102K in '02, now seven years later I replaced it yesterday at 262K. So the belt had 160,000 miles on it.
The old belt looked almost like new... just a bit of fraying in one spot. But I have seen broken belts that probably looked perfect right before they broke.
Also replaced water pump for the first time, and thermostat. They were original. The WP looked perfect as well.
Toyota rocks!!

I have got about 80K on this timing belt. But I am more concerned about the tensioner and the water pump than the belt itself. I can hear the wispy sound of wet belts at idle. Scary!!!

Nope, it's a five-speed. With 262K miles it's still on the second clutch, with no sign of wear as of yet. Aside from countless oil changes, brake pads, two or three batteries, etc., it has been nearly maintenance free.
I sold several generators years ago on Ebay. When you do that, your buyer is never nearby, and I hauled two of them -- with a weight of 4800 lbs each -- a total of 3500 miles, through mountain ranges and everything else, on a trailer. The original clutch still lasted almost 200,000 miles after all that abuse
Since my last post, I threw on a new set of front brake pads, bled the brakes with fresh fluid, started a process of replacing power steering fluid, rotated tires, etc. I can honestly say the 4Runner drives as well as the day I drove it off the lot in Knoxville TN, back in 7/96.
Oh, yeah, I did just replace the hydraulic clutch's master cylinder a couple weeks back -- cost $52 on Ebay with a slave that I will keep in case it fails later.
My wife has a Volvo S40 that is giving me no end of problems. Her next car is going to be a Toyota. Period.

Yea, im changing them both before winter! Gotta love how people never do routine maintenance

Yeah, I think you beat me! Sometimes people don't bother with the stickers after they change a timing belt...

Just got mine changed at 173K. The belt and water pump weren't bad and would have gone on much longer. But better to replace it now, at my convenience, than later when it's inconvenient.

I just did my water pump and timing belt yesterday. They had been done at 65000 miles. Since the first time they were done There were 110000 miles put on them. They looked very good. The belt had minor signs of wear and the water pump probably should have been reused, but I had already purchased the new one. Worst part of the job was that whoever did the job at 65000 used a ton of red loctite on the crank pulley bolt.
