How fast was she going when she hit me?
got hit - HARD - in my truck. i'll set the stage and you tell me how fast she was going. I was on my way home from work at 4 am last Saturday with the cruise set at 63. I had been in the same lane for 7 miles (where I got on the interstate). I look in my rearview and I see this car coming up behind me VERY quickly. I realize she’s not gonna change lanes so I grit my teeth and brace for impact (hands at 10 and 2)- BLAMO! I fishtailed a little but since I was relatively ready for it, I regained control quickly. Amazingly enough, no one was hurt. After I called 911, I went back to check on her (she initially pulled off on the opposite shoulder and then came over behind me). All her airbags had deployed and she was a little shaken up. You can probably guess by now what happened. Yep, she fell asleep. From the feel of the impact and the damage to the vehicles, I figure she was going around 100. take a look at the pics and you tell me how fast she would have to be going to do that kind of damage if I was sitting still with my foot OFF the brake – I didn’t touch the brakes until it was all over.

You need to set up the link to access from the PUBLIC page, not the one you are logged into unless you only want folks with a montypics account to be able to see it.

I would say there was only about a 5 mile per hour difference according to your tail lights. Did you replace those since the accident or did they actually survive? WOW! What kind are they?
Anyhoo I would say that she was doing about 20 over you. BTW - I voted

she was coming up very fast when i noticed her. when i saw her, she was probably 30-40 yards behind me. plus, what if i had swerved and she also swerved with me? i figured sitting there was just as good an option as trying to second guess what she was gonna do. plus, its kinda hard to swerve under control at 65.
i guess when you look back and see that, its hard to convince yourself that they're not gonna get out of the way

Glad everybody is ok. Hey, looks like a great opportunity to get an upgraded rear bumper. Probably the same cost as a stocker.
I wonder if her foot went to the floor when she fell asleep?
Did she get a ticket?

Really surprised your tail-lights are still intact judging from the amount of mangled steel. There had to be at least a 20mph difference between you & her. You're lucky she didn't roll you - hitting the corner and submarining under you, and all.

sorry, i failed to mention what she was driving
mazda millenia - looked totalled to me. her windshield shattered either from the impact or from the hood getting shoved into it. there was nothing recognizable left from the front end

Well it looks like your reciever hitch took the brunt of the force, that could be bad news for the frame. Was it bent? I'd guess 30 mph difference between the two vehicles. If it is totalled can I buy your engine?
