Horrible noise while starting
Hey everyone-
I have a '98 4Runner V6 Automatic 2WD (110K)
Lately, especially if the car has sat for a few hours, the engine makes an awful noise while starting. The starter contiues cranking even after the engine has started, and I have let go of the ignition key. When I turn the car off completely, and remove the key, I can hear the starter continuing to crank. It stops after about 5 seconds or so.
Then, I re-insert the key and the car will start normally. Any ideas? I have searched the archives and read about extensive problems with starter contacts... could this be the culprit? I have already replaced the battery (needed it anyway) and this did not help the problem.
Any chance this is something I could tackle on my own?
Thanks for your help,
Danny
