Hood w/scoop. Where can I get one?

My '99 came with the regular hood on it. My wife likes the scooped look. Can you just get the scoop or do you have to get the whole hood? Was thinking of checking some junk yards. Any suggestions?

They dont have bad prices, its 130.00 + s/h , i guess thats where they get you. I also ordered one for myself, but 150.00 for shipping is a little much,.

The hood part just includes the sheetmetal part. I believe there are some other parts you will need to get at the stealership too to complete it. Should be around another $150 for those parts. Then don't forget you will need to pay to have it painted unless you are just talented like that.

I'm in the same boat. I just paid $280+ tax for the hood. Toyota also had a price increase today, so plan on a little more. You also have to get about $160 worth of additional parts, then pay for paint and installation. I doubt you will find one at a junk yard, but good luck...

They are VERY rare in boneyards and when you do find one it will be very $$$$$ too.
Congrats if you do find one tho.

Here's a list of all the parts you will need to complete the scoop: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/4Runner/tech/scoop/

Actually, alot of the numbers in that list are wrong. They have been changed since the article was written. For example:

The hood is now 53301-35170.

I'll post the new numbers when I pick up my stuff next tuesday and I get the receipt with the new numbers on it.

I think you guys w/ "hood scoop envy" would be buckets of cash ahead to buy a quality fiberglass scoop and mount it on your orig. hood. The Yota h.s. isnt functional anyway, is it?

Just a thought.

I have to replace my hood anyway due to an accident. The hoods are the same price from toyota - the only difference in price are the $150 of additional stuff you have to buy for the scoop. The only reason I'm doing it is because I have to replace it anyway...

JC Whitney lists a bunch of hood scoops, 10 to choose from for a Toyota.

Non functional waste of money. "looks cool" -- Yeah, because I want to look like ricer boy across the street with a T/A ram air.

If anything it cuts down on aerodynamics and picks up extra rock chips.

Hood is non functional correct, but its pretty badass huh?.

There is something like 10 parts to the scoop that have to be attacthed, also the hood has some more contours to it to show off the scoop, If you look closely the hood is shaped differently than a stock non-scooped hood.

I got one for my 2000 Desert Dune Pearl Runner Not many (if any of those) and it looks great imo.. made a deal with the "stealer" when I bought it they paid for 1/2 the install paint and hood. Im sure (I know) somewhere done the line Im paying for it all. But thats what I liked and wanted... hehe

To me the hood looks great on 4runners. When I hit a deer, I got the scoop hood instead. When I got my hood all i had to buy was the hood itself and 3 scoop pieces.

I think they look great too. No they are not functional, but with a little ingenuity, they easily could be.
