This is the scoop I'm in the midst of putting on now.

It cost $65 but looks alot better than those plastic ones.

Dublin, That is the same scoop my buddy has but he got the much taller one thinking once on it would be lower. It will look bada$$ once finished, its in the primered/bondo'd stage right now. Yours looks so good though.

It's still a work in progress BigBadBlue,I've already reworked the glass three times. 1st try I found that the glass needed to be roughed up a bit for good adhesion. 2nd try found the high temp from the engine compartment caused cracking near the front, so I opened up the hood underneath. Now it looks like the final shrinkage is complete and then it should be golden.

I say go forward. Look at my hood pics on my Celica. The scoop lets cool, fresh air into the intercooler, and the hot air goes out of the vents. Maybe you could try something like that.

I used to have an ST185 also. Although the hood scoop is functional, that design was replaced after only a few years with a more functional design. The problem with that style of scoop on that particular car is that the cold air coming in through the scoop is more or less canceled out by the cool air coming in through the front valence. That is why the intercooler's heat soak so bad on ST185's (maybe not so much in SLC but in CA it get's really hot!!!). Basically it makes a heat sandwich with the engine in the middle. I installed a SPAL fan on my intercooler of my ST185 that actually would pull air out of the engine bay. The revised design was only offered overseas on the ST185 RC or Carlos Sainz edition. The new design was basically a front valance with much larger openings and a reverse facing opening in the hood. The idea was to let the air come in through the front and exit out the hood after passing over the hot engine. The intercooler was also changed to water-to-air to help keep it cooler. They added a small hole in the hood directly for ram air as well. I have a pic somewhere I will try to upload for reference but I'm sure a google search will have plenty of results.
Point is I would vote to mount it backwards if heat is the problem I would also add some smaller vents to either side like that ST185 louvers for additional cooling and if possible open up the front fascia somewhat. I say run the cheapy and run it how it will work best, don't worry about the looks as long as it works well...
