Honda CRV - Changing Oil Filter Can Cause Fire
Just on the news that the newer models ('03-'04) of the CRV are catching fire after the first oil change because the filters are "INSTALLED WRONG" They are sending out new instructions on how to change the filter.
Heh, Buy a Toyota next time.
It was just on NBC channel 4 in NEW YORK

Interesting how does that happen, screwing the old 1 off and the new 1 on is not complicated.
Combine this with all the transmission problems and you got a car on fire going nowhere
This is off-topic right unless we are comparing Toyota non flammble filters to Hondas combustible ones

I find this strange. My wife has an 04 CRV and I change the oil in it myself all the time. I can't see what would catch fire. The only thing I could think of is that its a problem with aftermarket filters. Probably those lousy Fram filters

I am a bit confused on this too....
I have changed them and not come near starting a fire.
Only thing I can think of is maybe if the filter was getting double gasketed (where the old o-ring sticks to the block and if you are too lazy to look and see that it did not come off and just screw the new oil filter on). That would just be pure stupidity tho.

im a mechanic, and the only issue i can see is honda on a lot of engines places the filter in the middle of the rear side of the engine..... right above the exhuast manifold... if its hot enough, i think it might flash oil that hit it from the draining filter (a few ounces at most)... but a fire? a frie needs fuel, air, heat, and chemical reaction to sustain..... and with a light amount of oil and no otehr fuel sources a small flash of oilwould be all that would result....

Damn double gaskets. Every time we get a new lube tech, this will happen. The way the filters sit on the new k seris engine, the exausht manifold is right there, i have burned my arm enough times on it already. . To all those that say, don't buy a honda, your right. Hondas quality control has gone down big time; trans that blow up second gear, trans that lock up, igntion switchs that fail, headlight switchs that catch fire. Honda can't seem to build a good car right now.
