Highlander edition a fake?!

So I went to my local dealer (Roseville Toyota) and was wasting my time looking at newer 4runners. I had asked if they had either a Highlander edition or a Sport edition. The (rude) salesman said that there was never a highlander edition, and he pointed me to an actual Highlander. He also said that the Sport edition was only available in 2001.

Was there really a Highlander edition? I'm pretty freakin sure there was, since everybody seems to have one.

It pisses me off to no end that two salesmen had no clue about their products.
They also could not explain the push button style shifter with a center locking diff. "Yah, that gives you more traction"

Oh, and that locker all of you have "just keeps your back tires in time with the front"
:pat:

Yep, I knew that. Apparently the dealer wasn't aware of any Highlander Edition. Wasn't there a 2000 highlander? b/c in 2001 the ACTUAL Highlander came out?

Salesmen are salesman, they know nothing about automobiles.

Yes there was. Haven't you learned yet that car salesmen don't know jack? That's why they're car salesmen. The 4Runner Highlander Edition was available starting in 1999, in Imperial Jade and Black, then in 2000 they added Millenium Silver. Then in 2001 they introduced the car based Toyota Highlander we all know now. I have an Imperial Jade Mica 1999 4Runner "Highlander" SR5. The 4Runner Highlander featured the SP or SX package incl. the hood scoop, 5spd, color matched bumpers/grill, and more. jalaber has a good write up on his site as well as the Toyota Ad below. I think i got it from his site a LONG time ago. It references the 4Runner Highlander by name.

i remember right before the 4th gens came out i was doing some research on them.. i went to a dealer to see if i could get a booklet thing on them.

they hadnt come out yet, so i decided to ask a few questions to see how aware the guy was of its specs. first question: what is the horsepower rating (knowing itd be 235/245). he said 195/220.

WHAT!

long story short.. i left. and when it came time to buy my '01 runner used i got it froma different dealer (who was actually very very knowledgeable).

2000 Highlander Here! It used to have matching flares too, but they were replaced with sliders.

Thats not nearly as bad as the dealership I bought my 2000 4Runner Highlander from. The salesman told me there was no such thing until I pointed it out on the window sticker. He kept telling me that I must be thinking of the limited.

i think the "Highlander" package was actually just an upgradable option in 99-00. Mine (2000) actually has the "Sport" package, but its not the "Sport Edition" that started in 2001.
