Looks like this may turn into another ranting thread...

Anyway, no matter what is said by people on this forum there are those who will use PnP kits no matter what DOT says or whether it is affecting everyone's safety.

I just don't see how you all can drive around knowingly blinding everyone else. I had my projectors aimed a little too high after I lifted my truck and I cringed when I saw a guy put up his hand because my lights were going right into his side-view mirror... I changed that real quick.

There is a Subaru that drives around here that has a PnP kit and I want to break his neck every time he blinds me. And that is driving my LIFTED 4Runner! I can't imagine the other drivers who are puttin around in cars.

Once again, factory HIDs are a heck of a lot different than Plug and play kits.

That said, I know that you are all going to do what you want, but maybe some uninformed person might change his mind...

Hey Fo-Sheezy, I know you said your kit didn't glare in your '02 4Runner, but did you notice a difference in your new 4Runners projectors? (Granted that they are halogen projectors, not HID) I'm curious if they worked out ok?

X2, pdyebrasil summed it up well
like he said do what you want, but when I'm driving i can clearly tell the difference between an OEM HID car and a halogen reflector with a kit, even some halogen projectors will glare with a kit, i bet Fo-Sheezy didn't cover up the "squirrel finder" in his projectors before putting in the kit.

for those who do buy a kit, don't get a color temp above 5k, your eyes will thank you

Factory HID's are a lot different than PnP kits, but there have been plenty of times that OEM HID's have blinded me, if they hit you at that certain angle it's like your staring into the sun! But yeah there's no glare whatever in the 08 4Runner, I made sure of it. Stood at all angles and looked at it, even passed my friend in his lowered civic on a two lane road, he reported no glare/blinding.

Otherwise this thread is promoting illegal activity. And it's not one of the stupid DOT rules, this one actually creates danger to other drivers by blinding them.
Thanks ---I've been blinded by Bimmers and Mercedes. My uncles FJ blinds me with his stock halogens.

No...these are not legal for on-road use. Off road and farms I'm sure you would be ok. Anytime there is an HID thread, it always seems to spark disagreements. I'm actually suprised to see so many people willing to pay $75 for a poor quailty kit.

You guys have given me an idea because I know I can get them for less than that and maybe I'll advertise a group buy and make a 'lil cash

Best of luck to all of you that are in the buy...

Price matching they won't do Ebay but I am working on trying to get another $5 off.

5000k- Sorry there is 5000 k available
Put you on the list?
If there is nothing that distinguishes them, I'll just go the Ebay route. All the guys on TTORA that did their driving light conversions haven't had any warranty issues...although a number of them did report their ballasts crapping out on them.

Curious: Are these single beam or Bi-xenon? If they are single beam, you guys will loose your high beams. Just a thought....

They're single beam, that's partially why they're so cheap, don't worry I have 6 auxillary 100 watt lights.

No HIDs.... but they do come with Halogen projectors. It would be a nice option to have that Toyota should offer.

This is a quote from Q-DawgVFR, who's a member here:

"I just did this mod to my '96, but to be honest, I was kinda dissapointed as it really does put out more light, but not exactly where I want it.

I went with a plug n play bi-xenon HID kit, which functions OK...

Please take it from one who has tried it: plug n play kits are NOT the way to go. If you have '96-98 headlight housings like me and are totally against spending the extra money to do it right, at the very least buy yourself the bi-xenon plug n play kits, because at least they provide SOME cut-off. With the cut-off, the HID lights are pretty hard on the eyes but just barely tolerable (I don't get flashed when I drive, and the shield removes the worst of the hot spots for me.), Without the shields to provide some cut-off you are seriously being an a$$hole to other drivers, and I can't see how you could possibly drive without blinding the crap out of someone.

If I keep the 4Runner more than the next year (we are tentatively planning on selling it after wife gets out of school and getting 4th gen), I WILL find the time and money to get '99 housings and some bi-xenon projectors to do this mod right like I should have from the start.

The people that are always talking about doing it right are NOT being snobs because they did it better; they are really trying to give helpful advice.

PLEASE LISTEN TO THEM.

And the biggest reason to do it right is for yourself. You are really selling yourself short not taking advantage of the superior lighting ability that proper optics will bring you. You will get the BEST of both worlds; you will not blind people AND you will have TONS of light WHERE YOU NEED IT!!!!"

Oh, and the shields he is referring to are called Casper shields, which go around the bulb to cut back on glare.

You would need ballasts for the H3's you're selling, right?
