After a few bumps in the road I have finally finished my retrofit of Porsche bi-xenon projectors into my '98 4Runner. I am very impressed w/ the results. Here are some pictures during the project...

After I get the rig all cleaned up today I'll take some pictures of them installed and hopefully get some output shots as well.

 

Wow alot of work for some lights, lets see it at night, and from the drivers perspective. Does your wife know your doing that on the kitchen table, and make sure you pay those bills!

Haha actually it's my mom's kitchen. I had to use the oven to get those lenses off, so what can you do? It's a little work, but pretty straightforward. The improvement over stock is AMAZING. I'll get some output shots later today.

I did use a bezel, just haven't taken any pictures since I put them on and sealed it up. I'll put those up later today as well.

Props for doing it right, instead of plugging in a cheap "HID" kit. Good to know I won't be blinded by you in SLC.

 

what temp was needed to bake the lenses at?

Did you heat up a pizza while you were at it...

looking good, are those shrouds the ones from Home Depot? I'm glad to see another person "see the light"

just make sure those are sealed up really well and the stock vents are not obstructed, i fought a fogging problem in my passenger side light for months, i thought that i had it sealed up, but there was a small pinhole that let in just enough water to make it fog

 

Thanks man. I figured that I might as well look out for my fellow human beings. Plus the projectors put out so much more "usable" light that I just refused to do it the "cheap and easy" way.

 

I baked them at 300 degrees and left them in for about 6-7 minutes. As for the pizza, I definitely should have thrown one in, but I probably would have gotten some all inside the projectors! Maybe next time around...

 

Yes sir! They are the Malibu solar stick light shrouds. I finally found some. Thanks for pointing me the right direction, cuz I think they turned out great!

I'm pretty sure mine are sealed up pretty well, and the stock vents are not obstructed, but I'll definitely keep my eyes open. Thanks again for your help.

 

Awesome! I picked up some FX bi xeon projectors and bulbs for cheap a couple months ago. Just need to get the ballasts and some extra headlights and my 2000 4runner will have a bi xeon retrofit too!

Man that looks so awesome, I just got my HID's in the mail today... I could really use some projectors.

 

How do you flash your high beams?

I see lots of OEM cars and retrofit cars w/ bi-xenon setup, but it seems odd not to have a way to flash the highbeams. Flashing the HIDs is NOT a good idea.

 

Just flash your fogs.

 

bi-xenon don't have two HID lights if you will... they have a motor that moves a blocker to expose more of the light for Highbeam. Thus it's not hard on the HID system itself at all.

EDIT: that is if flashing with the low beams on already...

 

I understand how bi-xenon's work, the light output never changes, they're always on "high beam" if you will, the reflector changes the light output based on high or low beam setting. But cars w/ bi-xenon's from the factory don't use their internal reflector for flashing the highbeams, they all have a halogen light to flash.
