Help What Does This Connect To?!

I'm guessing it hasn't been gone too long since I can still see the difference in the color of were the hose once was. I looked around the engine and couldn't find any hoses or anything. I know it's a vacuum but I don't know what for.

No worries mate. My 3.0 has been like that for a year, which is how long I have owned it. I can't explain it but I don't think anything is broken.

That will cause quite a vacuum leak.....at least plug it until you figure it out.

I don't know if that's a good idea since it sucks in air when the truck is running, and since it goes directly into the engine I don't want to plug anything until I know what it is.

edit - I assume that's your engine? I'll try plugging it for a bit I'm just scared something's going to blow up

Got the same thing on mine, been that way for about 4 years, thats when I first noticed it . Looked all over the engine compartment and can't find where or if it goes anywhere.

Guys.....any air that get's sucked into the engine should all go through the air cleaner!!!! :pat: If it is sucking in air then it is obviously a vacuum leak and should at the very least be plugged to prevent dirt and debris from getting in there and doing any damage.

No, that is not my engine....I was looking for 2nd gen pics and couldn't find any clear ones to see but I am pretty sure that if you can't find any hanging vacuum hoses then it originally just had a vacuum cap on it. Your engine will certainly not blow up from plugging it.

Don't just plug it! Toyota put it there for a reason, if you leave it open it is like leaving an open hole directly into your intake allowing not only air but dirt to enter.

Back again, I'm not going outside any more its 18 F now and the wind is picking up. Started it up drove down the road and back, popped the plug on drove down the road and back. No noticable difference, a little higher RPM under load. I'll take her for a little road trip tomorrow and let you know if any difference good or bad.

It is not at all uncommon to have a vacuum port that it capped from the factory. You are right they put it there for a reason, but that reason may not exist on your truck. A leak like that is not too bad but will lessen perfomance a bit and cause a high idle by leaning out the engine slightly.

Here is a 3.4L....note the capped line (from the factory):

Anyone have a close up pic of a 2d gen throttle body???

Hey Del.. I just looked at a couple photos on my hard drive, and mine is capped off.. I am gonna bet the cap fell off.
BTW, the cap is the same one in the above photo. I can see the cap in a couple of photos, but not clearly enough to re-post

Well took her for a ride with the cap on (the thingy) no noticable difference, so i'm leaving it on. Way too much effort to pull the hood release, lift the catch, raise the hood, reach in, and take it back off. I'll need to work on my upper body strength, 12 oz. at a time. If anyone knows why its there let us know, it could be for some factory option, or knowing engineers it could be there just to annoy us.

Mine is plugged also. I think this tube is to inject cleaner (Seafoam) to remove carbon deposits. Its in the perfect place to do so.

Any vacuum leak with a MAF sensor should be capped/repaired. Its unmetered airflow and unfiltered air. Im thinking that these trucks are sold all over the globe and the port is for something not used here in the US.
