Help with a starting problem - 1998 Tacoma 3.4L

Alright, my truck did this one time like 3 weeks ago and did it again yesterday. When i went to start it, it fired and died immediately. So, i started it again and it ran good for a few seconds the sputtered and died when i gave it gas. both times i turned the key to the off position and then started it back up a third time and it ran great. Like i said, its done this 2 times about 3 weeks apart. It is a 3.4L 5-speed 4X4 98 tacoma. What do yall think could be causing this?

Renamed your thread - first one was pretty ambiguous.

I agree with the tune-up idea, might also look at doing the fuel filter.
How many miles on it? Any work been done to it recently?

Fuel pump might be going bad but with only 100k on it I doubt it.

could be the check ball in the fuel pump that keeps fuel from draining out of the lines

if this becomes a problem that happens every day then try turning the key on for 5 seconds, then back off, then back on for 5 seconds, then back off, then back on for 5 seconds, then start it

if it starts normal then it is probably the check ball
