HELP! - Rear Window
Anybody out there do a lot of work on the rear window winder of a second gen??
Mine just recently started causing me grief. As the window is being lowered or raised it will chunk,,almost like gear teeth not meshing. It has only stopped once, while the window was being raised, and I had to move it up and down a couple of times for it to finally close completely.
Is there an adjustment that can be made, or am I looking at replacing the entire assembly?
Off that topic and onto another,,,The front passenger seat adjuster (uner the seat) on my rig seems to have been broken, it just hangs there all limp and I can't slide the seat forward. Think it's time for a new seat, or is it easily repaired??
Thanks for any advice

I can tell you that the seat is probably easily repaired. Just take the seat out and flip it over, you will see the latching mechanism and the spring that holds pressure, I'm sure it just came off. A pretty easy fix. The window I have no idea...most likely the regulator, but I am not sure.

About all you can do is take it apart (rear window) and see. Its not hard, just look a lot at things so you get a better idea of just how things come apart and out. I worked on mine about a year ago and had the regulator out and took apart the motor and gearbox, cleaned and greased everything. I had the tailgate lowered and had to pull the glass out some. I used a stool and pad to help support the glass as i pulled it out some for access.

Check this thread...
I detailed what it took me to lube and clean my rear window mechanism, since I've had similar problems.

I have scans I made too several months ago from the factory service manual that may be some help.

My regulator went out on mine last spring.
The window would go down, but not come up very easy.

I had the same thing happen on my '92 a few months ago. What is happening is there is a plastic/rubber gear that is falling apart inside the window regulator. The gear teeth will be fine but the gear is glued to a rubber piece that spins with the motor. Your condition will only get worse until the window will not move at all. Eventually, the gear and rubber piece separate, so leave your window UP or you'll be freezing you !@#$%^ off up there in Canada! Unfortunately, nobody sells the gear by itself. You have to buy a whole new motor. They run around $125 used. If you open the rear access panel on your tailgate, you can confirm that the motor is spinning but the gear that moves the mechanism that raises and lowers the window is slipping. The service manual really helps with this repair because I removed the entire window mechanism in order to get the motor off.
Good luck,
Bill

OK, resurecting an old one. My rear window has developed this problem (As Fred indicated to start the thread). Was PAhydrohead right? Also, is the window motor and window regulator all one unit?
