Help please: Moonroof opens randomly

Need help:
I have a 2000 4runner. Sunroof has recently started leaking. Today sometime the sunroof opened on its own when the car was off. When I tried to close it nothing happened. I messed with it (took it apart so I could get to the motor and such) and kept trying and got it to close. As I was putting things back together it opened again. The truck was turned off and keys out of the ignition. I realize it is likely to be because of water shorting something. It now makes a buzzing noise when I try the switch but won't move. I can't get it closed. I don't see a manual closing slot that I read about in google search.

That's a neat trick. The power to the moon roof is cut at the POWER relay in the engine room relay box shortly after the key goes off. Confirm that your windows are dead when key is off. If so, then power has to be shorting in to the motor from the lighting circuits up there. It's not coming from its own circuit.

That's about all I can tell you.

i wonder did someone want the moon roof to be able to open anytime ??

Then changed the way the circuit is powered.

Granted strange things do happen most often to me.

These things only happen in the winter or during a major hurricane never fails.

Get it closed and disconnect the motor till you figure it out.

I am going out right now and disconnect mine just to be safe!!!

Update

Turned the truck on this morning and tried the sunroof and it closed. As I was driving it was occasionally opening on its own an inch or so at a time. I turned the radio on and it opened all the way. I was able to close it all the way and pulled the plug on the motor.

Now to find the short.

This is also happening to my moonroof. difference is it's tilting only. Where is the moonroof motor and plug located? is it easily accessible?

Thanks!

Takes a bit of work to access it. Had to take off the handles, rear view mirror and light thingy, sunroof trim, sun visors, and metal cover. Pretty straight forward.

Haven't had time to mess with finding the short yet.
