Help needed with weird noise
I have developed a noise which has already been described here by this thread :
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/weird-knocking-sound-49006/
Does anyone know what this could be??
Is it something serious??
I got a 2002 2wd 4runners and the clunk is noticeable with engine under load on drive or reverse with the brakes pressed on.
It is not trans fluid because I just replaced it with brand new synthetic last weekend and it has the right level and the noise was there before
Please help me on this one

It's awfully difficult to diagnose without hearing the sound, but I'll throw out some possibilities. My first guess would be a bit of piston-slap.
Or, depending on how sensitive your ears are, possibly the clicking of the injectors, or the solenoids on the charcoal canister.

On my '97 4Runner, it is located on the drivers side of the engine comparment, basically in front of the brake master cylinder. It's a black box with vacumm hoses running to it, and some electrical connections.
From the front of the vehicle, you have the battery, the fuse block, then the charcoal canister.
When the canister is being purged of the gas vapors it collects from the gas tank, and sending them to be burned in the engine, the solenoids on top will open and close, causing a clicking sound.
But as I said, without beng there to hear the noise, it's not possible to say if that is what you are hearing for sure.
Your best bet would be to find a mechanic that specializes in NVH (noise, vibration, harshness), and driveability issues.
