help me remove the rear door panels 96 4runner
Hey guys I am putting new speakers in my rear doors on my 1996 4Runner.
I have the bottom half of the door basically off but the top half seems to be stuck..
I took the screw out from the door handle on the inside and I pushed in the two circular tabs on the top left and right.. the problem is up by the window. i already pulled on it a little too hard and ripped it a little bit.. i tried pulling up and it wouldnt really budge. Does anyone know what to do?

thank you. I tried that and it helped me get the top portion off.. now the side where the little handle thing is (the thing used to close the door when you are sitting in the back seat) is stuck. It feels like there is some kind of bolt or tab but I don't see it. I have tried pulling and pushing from all directions. Does anyone know what is actually under that side?

i dont remember exactly, but it should just pop right off. the door panels are held on by mostly clips. since the bottom is off, have you just tried pulling, and looking up into the door to see whats holding it on? if its just a clip (might be yellow/bright green/white/anything actually) then just yank on it. if they break, you can pick new ones up for cheap, or leave em w/out all of them as long as theres some to hold it on. what are you switching your rear speakers to? i personally dont feel like its totally necessary to have a rear stage. just my opinion tho. if you do want to change em, consider at least a 5 1/4" or maybe 6.5 back there.

Yeah I tried pulling but the plastic on the panel actually bends... Maybe I should push it up. I'm gonna take a look at it tomorrow again in the daylight.
I had some pioneer speakers but one of them blew so I got 5 1/4" Jensen's. They aren't anything special but I was sick of the rattling from the blown speaker.
Hopefully I can get the door panel off tomorrow. Are there any bolts or anything else I should know about?

you need to pry off the top of the door handle (the one you pull on to close it, not the actual handle to open it), there will be 2 screws that need to come out of there
did you get those?
if you get those screws, pry all the tabs, and get the two pop outs on either side you should be able to slide it up and off.

Thanks NWRunner! I never would have thought of that. I could tell that something was still grabbing behind there but never would have guessed to pry that handle thing up.
I put my speakers in and they sound great. It makes a big difference to get rid of rattling blown speakers lol.
Thanks!
