Hey all, i just picked up my '98 4Runner and want to put a better suspension on it. I am not looking to get more then 1.5" to 2" of lift.

This is my DD that I put about 70 miles a day on so I want a good ride for all of that driving.

So I am planning on adding the Addco swaybars to control body lean some more, and then run some "super secret" disco's I have been working on.

I am at a loss for springs and shocks though.

I would assume some form of Tundra TRD springs for the front, with either Tundra TRD shocks or OME shocks.

For the rear, how much lift do the LC80 coils give you? I can get a set for around free is why I ask. Or would I be better to go with some OME's?

Get a long-arm TJ suspension system and adapt it into there. Great ride with great articulation - best of both worlds!

In your opinion what's the minimum $$ that you could spend if you want to lift 2" , I mean for the suspention.

 

Get the free LC coils for the rear for about 3 1/2" of lift. The matching shocks are pretty cheap. W/ this much lift in the rear, you'll probably want all the Sonoran steel stuff such as the panhard bar, longer brake lines, etc.

From what Steve wrote on his website and others that have chimed in here, you should not go more than the 2 1/2" of lift in the front (suspension only) so you don't have any issues w/ your CV angles. You could do a 4crawler body lift for less than $200 w/ all the required pieces.

 

I am anti-body lift until it is absolutely needed. But thanks anyways.

 

I just read the thread about the kits he put together. I just wish i could get a little less lift in the rear, but I guess I will probably just go witht the LC coils. Does it matter what year LC they are from, FJ or FZJ?

The minimum I could get all of the Toyota TRD springs and shocks for would be around $50 to $75. They would be used though.

1995. if you search, you'll find a lovely 10 page thread of people trying to find the right coils. there is a difference.

but if you want to listen to the guys on ih8mud, get whatever year you want.

So I have been reading about FJ/FZJ and LX coils for awhile now. Im hoping to find out that LX front coils will yeaild a little less lift then the 1995 FZJ front coils.

Anybody already know and want to save me this hassle?

So after sifting thorugh all of the posts on the threads on ih8mud I found links to, and those 14 pages, this is what I gathered:

'95 FZJ coils are the 7 wrap
'93 to '94 FZJ are 8 wrap
'96 to '97 FZJ are 8 wrap
'91 to '92 FJ are 8 wrap but taller than the '93 to '94 and '96 to '97
LX coils are somewhat of a mistery still

Bottom line: '95 coils yeild the least lift out of all the LC coils.

Is that somewhat right?
