Unhappy HELP! Having trouble with spark plugs

I bought OEM Toyota Denso spark plugs and spark plug wires from Wires4Cars. After I installed them I started my 4Runner up and their was a huge power loss. It had a rough idle where the entire engine shook and the exhaust sounded wierd. I did some research on the forum and eyeballed the gapping and reinstalled everything. That didn't work, so I reinstalled the old spark plugs and wires to see what happens. The result was the same as before. If anybody has any ideas or ways to help I would appreciate it.

Did you make sure you didnt mix your firing order up? How bad was the engine running in the very first place even with the old plugs?

It shook, rattled, and rolled even with the stuff that was in before?
I would have to guess that you have a wire crossed somewhere out of the firing order.

I took one off and put one on. I did this all the way around. Does anyone have a diagram or pic of their engine?

Yeah make sure the firing order is correct then check each plug & wire for spark.

I went out to O'Reilly Auto Parts and bought a Spark Plug Gap and Feeler Gauge Set. I'm about to check the gap on all of the plugs right now. I created a drawing of the firing pattern I have now. I don't know where to host the pic though?

OK, thanks, mine is different from yours so I can't help you with a picture. I just changed my plugs and wires with Toyota OEM and the wires were numbered and came with the extra wire looms and the little plugs that snap on top of the end that goes on the distributor. Were yours that way? How was it running before you changed them?

Your factory wires should be fine and I definitely wouldn't replace them unless you are using OEM! It sounds like a plug wire. The gaps wouldn't cause a problem like you are having.

Yoter - How would I check each wire for spark?

Calg3 - I don'r have a distributor, I have 3 spark plug wires and 3 coil packs. My truck was running great, I did the Seafoam treatment and then decided to change the spark plugs and wires.

I went to Autozone to have them read the check engine codes and they came up with codes:
P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
P0305 Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected
P0306 Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected
So now I'm thinking maybe 2 of the coil packs are bad. Can someone please post a firing order? The one I got a Autozone says it's 1-2-3-4-5-6 and comes with a diagram as shown:
-----------------
1 _____ 2
3 _____ 4
5 _____ 6
-----------------

Did you do the seafoam treatment at the same time as the as the plug/wire change?

No, I did the Seafoam treatment one week before the plug/wire change.

I agree there is something possibly wrong with the wire set (install or product itself). When you get them off you should check the resistance of the original wires and compare it to the new ones....this will be a good indicator of what problem you are looking at. I would suggest next time to only use OEM components (incl plug wires especially).

I seriously doubt that any of the coil packs are bad....
Did you unclip the connectors on them when you changed the plugs?
If you stretched any of the wires you might have broken a connection.
Also make sure if you did unclip them that they got clipped back in properly.

IF the firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6, then 1-4 are on the same coil, 2-5 same coil, 3-6 same coil. On coil pack vehicles, the spark goes from the coil, to the spark plug, through the block, back through the companion spark plug, and returns to the coil. ( IE, it fires 2 spark plugs each time...one on compression and 1 on exhaust stroke)

the front right cyl is # 1

FRONT OF ENGINE

2...........1

4...........3

6...........5

I think it should be like this:
-----------------
5 _____ 6
3 _____ 4
1 _____ 2
-----------------

front of engine

That would explain your error codes and the running rough. The cylindar map I just listed is the way it is on the 3.0, so it might be different, but I doubt it.

So, the wire from coil pack number 1 goes to 2, 3 to 4 and 5 to 6....
