help harmonic balencer came loose

ill make a long story short 97 4runner 3.4 2wd, i posted a couple of days ago reguarding my belts screaming, well i to off the ac and alt belt it still squelled, i pretty much narowed it down to the power steering pump or belt, so i replaced the power steering belt and it fixed the squeeling, so i put the alt and the p/s belts back on i drove for 1 day quiet as a mouse, tonight im driving i start hearing some banging a squeeling i get home and figure it the power steering pump gone bad, upon inspection i see my harmonic balencer cocked to on side i took the bolt out luckly the bolt and crank are not wollerd out, the harmonic balencer has a sleeve in it mine is all wollerd out, i called auto zone the sell a replacement sleeve for 7 bucks, i wonder if the whole time i was hearing the squeeling it was the blancer comming loose? anyone

Was the crank bolt loose? It's pretty common for those to work loose if they are not torqued to the new spec of 217 ft-lb. The old spec was about 185 ft-lbs. This often happens because the new spec never made it into the big data base that lots of mechanics use. We usually see them on here after a timing belt was replaced and the bolt improperly torqued.

When I installed my 3.4 I checked the torque on the bolt to make sure it was tight.

You need some kind of SST to hold the crank, I made this one from some scrap steel:

I replaced my timing belt, my harmonic balancer was loose as well, just spinning freely. In a last minuite dash to get it back together I bought a tube of window urethane and glue the hb back together. BUt here is my problem. Now I think the Crank seal is leaking, I will be replacing it soon, The question is What did I do to make it leak. It wasn't leaking before

If the urethane gets behind the balancer and hardens,it will tear the seal up=leak...

.........

It usually takes a bolt-grip-puller to get the crank off, will need long metric bolts for it...you can do it carefully with 2 pry bars and even pressure if you are carefull, but I recommend the puller...Once its off, a little light cleaning with sand paper if any rust and a quick spray of silicone lube spray...It will slip back on like butter
