HELP: 2003 4Runner V6 always makes noise
Can anyone help me? I've had my 4runner since last may and I installed a head unit and 2 W3's. My car makes a weird noise when I accelerate over 2k rpm. I never really noticed the noise before b/c my music was always on. The noise goes like bbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and rolling your tongue and making your tongue vibrate. I had toyota check it out in jersey and they said it's a normal noise the engine makes. I will have my toyota in Pa check it out soon. Anyone else with this problem or know why it does that and can it be fixed?

what kind of noise are we talking about?
if you installed an aftermarket radio and now have this humming sound that sounds like it's revving as your engine revs, it might be the sound of the alternator frequency interferring from the aftermarket radio. Not sure but I do hear ppl have problems like this after they install a radio. Don't quote me exactly on this but I have heard of problems like this after their hu install.
if you upload a mp3 file of the sound that'll help

The best noise I can say it makes without recording it is like if you're cold and you vibrate your tongue and go brrrrr and is you're cold and not saying burrrr...hope that helps, i will try to get a recording soon.

Something isnt grounded propperly...check you radio and amp ground. Try to run them all to the same location and PREFERABLE to the battery to avoid creating an electro-mag field.

I tried changing the location of the ground wire but it still makes that noise. Before I had the power wire and head unit running under the same side but I separated them and that didn't help either. The sound seems like it's coming from the engine fan or something. Should I run the ground wire from the back of the SUV up to the head unit's ground? I have it in the 4runner's trunk right now tied to a screw that I think is connected to the frame. Thanks for your replies!

Like jimabena74 said, they sell noise filters for this. I had the same issue. You have to instal it between the head unit and power source. Any shop that sells sound systems can sell you this or direct you to where you can find it. Installation is very direct. Or like goodtimes said, it's a grounding issue. Either way you are better off with that noise filter.

I grounded the amp's ground to the negative terminal and bought a ground loop isolator and nothing has changed. Does it take time for it to change b/c I've driven for like half an hour and nothing has changed. Anyone have any more ideas? thanks
