Headlights - PIAA versus...???
I'm new to 4Runner and this forum and I have a question...probably the first of several to come. The hot headlight setup seems to be PIAA Super White H4's.
Q1) Does this choice come out of some testing (formal or otherwise)?
Q2) Has anyone checked out the Sylvania Silverstar halogens (9004 ST/2)?
Thanks in advance.
PS - I've already ordered up Addcos and Bilsteins based on the forum's views on these matters.

Your going to love those Bills especially if your old shocks are shot. I did not know what I was missing untill I replaced mine.
I'm looking for good replacements as well.
As far as the sylvania bulbs read some of the post here:

I saw go with the PIAAs. I'm running the PIAA H4 Extream Whites. I would have never known what I was missing until I ran these, you can see everything as clear as day. I'm hoping the Bils I just got will be the same huge difference. The PIAAs are beautiful, they burn clear as hell, vision is so great under these things, I'm also running the PIAA wiper blades now(still waiting for some rain to try um out) simply b/c I love the lights so much, I figured the blades would be just as awsome. I'm sure others will chime in on this topic soon.

I used to be very pro PIAA until I found they seem to have exactly a 12 months life. I am still using the original xtra bulbs in an H3 in my stock fog lights.
For the H4 headlight bulbs, one would go then the second within weeks.
I did NOT touch the glass and I did complain but $70 every year is too much. I was around $210 down before I quit.
I loved the look but dang...too much freakin money.
I fixed my back roads/high beam issue with some Landmaster 190 dual beams from CAT. I now have an additional 260W in 8" reflectors up front when I need it

Did you have to modify your stock fog light housing in order to install the PIAA H3? or it's just the matter of Plug-N-Play? does H3 just fit right into the stock fog lights?

I have the same sort of questions about these PIAA lights. Please tell me that these lights are not the lame blue Pep Boys looking lights that you see all these Honda Civics with. I want a nice crisp white light. I know that it won't be the HID look that most of the new, high dollar cars have, but is it something closer to that. Do they make a HID kit for these trucks? If they do, how much does it cost?
If these lights are worth the money, I would consider getting new bulbs to replace the stock headlights and a set of bulbs for the stock fog lights. Are the fog lights a pain to change out or what?

Hey 2002SE,
Welcome.
The H3 PIAA's xtra go straight into the OEM fog lights.
Plug-n-play indeed !!!
Its a bear to do it on the car as it is very fidly however, if you remove one small bolt (8 mm head I think) and detach the loom, the fog light can be removed in seconds.
Sit it on the bench somewhere clean and light and just remove the back of the casing (4 small crosshead screws)
Then just change it out. Don't touch the glass of the bulb without gloves ...the oil from your fingers will kill it.

So these lights are a good investment? They are not the "cheap" looking lights that you see all over eBay? What makes the PIAA lights so much better than the ones on eBay for $19.99?

These are PIAA lights, plain and simple, they are not made in some random shop and marketed for 20 bucks. They burn clear and bright, closeto HID w/o paying $600. Give them a shot you won't be dissappointed. They burn clear and white not blue, they will give your rig a really nice clean look, like a high end Acura or Infinity SUV.

Cybrenergy,
It's worth the money, I had the PIAA XTreme While H4 on mine. Looks nice and very bright. Everytime I ride at night in my neighborhood, people keep looking at my rig, I know because if the light. I just ordered the H3, can't wait for it.
The cheapest place I see is Optauto.com. the H4 Xtreme White is 49.95 and the H3 for fog light is 43.75. Buy both to save the Shipping cost.
good luck.

It sounds like a good buy. I am really just wondering about the Xenon Bulb Conversion Kit. Has anybody installed one of these suckers on their truck?
The price is not too bad, Performance Products' website has them for like $500 (I guess that's the kit I would need - H4)??
Check out their site and see what you all think!

kind of coming into this a bit late, but, do they offer these for 2nd gen. runners?. if so, are they about the same price?. and from reading all of these posts, it sounds like they are relatively easy to put in..

yeah i've got PIAA platinum super white bulbs in my headlights, look just great, but I have to get brighter bulbs for my clear corners, they don't match right now, what type of bulb is in the corners? Does PIAA make one that matches the stock one?

i'll order the wedge bulb, it just says wedge bulb in the manual. I'll see how they look, they should match my headlights, I will post my results and maybe some pictures too, depending on how they come out.
