Headlight Harness
I did a bit of searching on the board about the upgrade headlight harness mod and I have a couple of questions.
For those of you that have the mod, is there REALLY that much difference?
Suvlights told me to go for the super heavy duty set for my dual battery set up.
When I spoke to an electrican, he said he couldn't see that it would improve light intensity by a significent amount.
So any input before I buy would be useful.
Suvlights quoted $65 for the harness and $12 for postage... Is this good?

They will negotiate a little. I got 2 HD harnesses from them for $100 and that included freight. I also got their Osram Silverstar +50 Halogen bulbs. On my vehicles (Sequoia & Tundra) the HD harnesses did not make a difference to the human eye. I did notice a nice difference in light (distance remained the same) with the Osram bulbs over stock. If I had to do it over again I would just purchase the bulbs and forget about the harness.

That's pretty high for the harness. I paid $50 shipped, but the company I bought from went out of business. If memory serves me right, I saw a voltage increase of 13.3 over 12.7v stock. The difference is there in the numbers. As for brighter light, it doese shine brighter... but not necessarily further. If you want distance, get some Hella 500's

If I measure the voltage on the stock headlight wiring and then directly from the battery with the engine running I should see a difference then?

...both while the engine is running???
If I'm understanding you correctly, then yes you will see a difference of about a volt.

Correct Chris,
Will this show up as brighter light if I get the harness? I have Hella 550 fogs and soon will have 4x 55w Spotlights on the cargo rack on the roof. So do I really need it?

If you're gonna have all that auxiliary lighting, then I'd say don't get it. Just upgrade your headlights and leave it at that. The only reason I got the harness is because I don't have aux lights and wanted the brightest light possible from the headlights.

I agree with Chris. Given all that aux lighting, you don't really need the harness. Unless you just want the brightest light you can get out of your headlamps.
But, to answer your original question, I can definitely see a difference. My lights are back to white, when they were yellow. The biggest change for me is up on high beams which makes sense given the additional current demand.
I also moved up to a high output alternator around the same time, but I ran with just one harness in for about a month to verify that there's a difference.

Thanks for the advise guys, much appreciated.
I would love HID's, but I am a little concerned about the quality of what is on offer, and I have standard glass headlights (not the multi reflective one's)
