Get your head gasket replaced as soon as possible. I don't think that anyone who has had it replaced has had a problem afterward. Get it done before Toyota decides to end the recall. Back in 1997 it would have cost $1000 to get it replaced. Dealership showed me the invoice. Also when you get it done you may want to consider getting the timing belt replaced at the same time, should not cost you any labor.

I've had to have my HG replaced twice. The early HG changes still had a flaw. I've heard of people getting that one fixed under warranty too, but you have to yell pretty loudly. A friend of a friend got toyota fix it without labor charges. I still had to buy the new heads.
check out this thread on ODW. This guy just bought a 91 for $850 and 329K miles. The HG wasn't done and engine blew up and it looks like toyota is giving him a new engine.
talk about lucky.
