Hi, I'm new here. I just purchased the O gasket yesterday for my 99 4runner 4x4 being built right now lol It was off that rim painting website, Christian, I'm guessing?
I need to post some pics and stuff though...I bought the car with with a bad motor and am in the process of swapping an 04 5vz in right now. lots of work done the last 2 weeks.

Just did mine before my snowboarding trip this past weekend. Between that, polishing the throttle body and cleaning my maf sensor I noticed obvious gains in all ranges...coupled with the other repairs I've been doing the engines driving than ever.....at 220k too

I did notice a slight difference the first time I drove it after changing the gasket, cleaning the throttle body and adjusting the throttle.
I am sure it was a combination of all three but with a NA you need every bit of help you can get.

I bought mine from Christian too. I noticed smoother throttle response and it seems to pull stronger in the lower end. I also have a Tru-flow intake tube, Tru-flow filter, and deckplate mod so this just made all of that work even better.
When you compare the gaskets side by side in person, you'll instantly want to do the swap. For $6 it's a cheap and easy mod.

There are a ton of intake opportunities available on the 5VZ. And, like folks have mentioned in this thread, changing out the gasket is a great excuse to do some maintenance (and perhaps a few mods).
Potentially, this is what you could do:
Deckplate Mod
Performance Air Filter
Elbow Mod
ISR Mod
O Gasket Mod
Coolant Bypass Mod (no it doesn't affect your idle like it does on Honda's. I have been running it for 2 years now - avoid it in cold climates though)
Throttle Body Bore and Polish (pre-butterfly, not post)
Crankcase Ventilation Bypass ("exhausts" to atmosphere - can be stinky)
I run all of the mods above except the crankcase mod - too stinky at idle for my liking. And all that's with the supercharger. As you can see, there's a ton of potential here to unlock a little HP and throttle response.

Yeah more info on the coolant bypass mod would be nice.
I've done that along with phenolic resin intake manifold spacers on a Subaru before and it made a nice difference, especially in the winter!
I've not looked at the schematic yet but I want to make sure that there is not a coolant temp sensor in the throttle body that might make the ecu think the motor isn't warmed up yet if disconnected. This would probably make it run overly rich and maybe screw with timing. If there is no sensor I'm definitely doing this.
Already have the O gasket to install.
I might try to knife-edge the throttle body plate as well if I get motivated.

I have the TRD air filter, Air Raid Tube and clean MAF and TB. I drove like that for 9 months then added the O ring gasket and cleaned the TB again. I noticed a little "low-end torque" I think. I'm glad I did it. For $6, why not. It is a good excuse to get the back side of TB clean. I think it is an improvement but a small one.
