hardwire V1

Has anyone found a place to hardwire a V1 somewhere in the roof area of the car? I know there'sa writeup how to hardwire under the steering column, but I'm looking to wire mine somewhere by the rear view mirror of the dome light...

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Here's where I mounted mine....
made a small V shaped bracket and mounted it using the
visor mounting screw... hardwired to the fuse box

you can run the power wire up the a-pillar and then across to the mirror area. there is plenty of gap to do that

how do I get the a-piller off so that can run the V1 wires behind it?

One problem to think about is where you are going to put the module unless you plan on making your own harness and splice into the phone cord. If anyone has an extra hard-wire module I'd gladly buy it off you. I left mine in my R32 and they don't sell them by them selves. I hard-wired mine down in the kick panel.

Yeah, I have the original "fat boy" V1, its about time for a new one...

You don't need to take it off--just slip the wire through the crack.

Its not that hard to remove the A pillar....

ANd V1 does sell ALL the parts - but you have to give em your serial number off your existing unit (apparently they track that kind of stuff)

How do you remove it then?

I'm mainly worried about breaking clips and stuff like that. Thats why I just dont want to go yanking things off. I also have a boost gauge on the a-piller and I dont know how much slack I have on the wires, so I'm trying to be careful about the whole thing.

Who installed the boost guage?

Basically the clips PUSH in..

If yer really worried - go to a pick and pull and practice on some Toyota cars... Honda/Acura are similar (the ones I've pulled apart)

I hard-wired mine in about 4 years ago and I'm trying to recall what I did. I was going to tap in to the sunroof power but didn't have any luck probing around with my DMM. I pulled the driver-side pillar cover off (I do remember having to use an impact wrench to get those friggin' phillips screws loose) and discovered a harness running up the pillar. I found a wire that was hot when the ignition was on and tapped into it around where the pillar meets the roof. I then needed a decent ground connection and ended up running a wire with crimped hoop on the end down to where the grab handle screws into the pillar. A screw that holds the grab handle on runs through the hoop completing the ground.
