happyness but need help!!!
Ok so after years of wanting and bs'ing around 2 days ago I finally did it I sold my civic and the next day bought an 1985 4runner. Had 149,000 miles on it for 2300 bux no dents looked pretty clean out side no dents inside seats kinda torn up but all in all its nice.
But I have a few concerns. Haha 1st day driving in the mud at my house I put my wheels on lock and put in 4 wheel drive but I don't think it engaged am I doing it right? When I got stuck only my driver side rear tire spun.
Another thing is I was driving last night and felt dripa and my friend noticed water droplets coming from the top of my windshiled behind the rear view mirror what should I do?

To check the 4wd, leave the hubs unlocked, put in in 4wd and have someone look under the rig while you move it. The front driveshaft should turn. Put it back in 2wd and the front shaft should not turn. Try low range too.
To check the hubs, with it in 4wd and both hubs locked, jack up one front tire, unlock that hub and turn tire by hand. Should turn easily. Lock both hubs and turn the tire - shouldn't turn easily. Difference will be obvious. Then do the other side same way.

Oh, and with open diffs, when you're stuck in mud and spinning the tires (assumes no traction to ANY tire) the right rear and left front will spin going forward, left rear and right front spin in reverse.

Does it have a sunroof? CB antenna hole in the roof? The water leak can be coming from the windshield seal along the top or from the sunroof if it has one. Unlikely to be coming from the cab-to-rear-roof joint, but I would check that too.
