h1157 bulb heat issue?
I have a 1997 Toyota Tacoma, I am about to do the blinker mod, switching the blinker and running light wires. My question is, will these h1157 bulbs be to hot for the "fog Light" blinker enclosure? They have the same base as a reg 1156/1157 just a brighter halogen bulb, I am putting clear turn signal lenses in so the light will shine through better, the bulbs are 50w and like 1350 lumens. Has anyone done this or know first hand the result, I've looked on here and t4r and other websites and all I see is people that heard they might burn the lense, not like fire burn, but just overheat and discolor the lense, I really want to do this with these bulbs as they are supposed to be pretty bright, also anyone know where to get or if they even make a clear glass lense for the turn signal? I don't really want any external fog lights, I would like to keep it clean/factory looking on the outside. Thanks!

From what I know, I wouldn't put a Halogen 1156/7 into your corner lens housing. I think your caution is warranted, and they probably would burn/melt the housing.
In the turn signal mod, the OP uses LED replacements for his turn signal bulbs. LEDs don't make hardly any heat, so you should do the same if you're interested in doing the mod.
Here's some 1157s over at SuperBrightLeds: http://www.superbrightleds.com/searc...products/1157/
Also, I got my clear corners on FleEbay. I found these on a quick search:

Just FYI though, the Ebay corner lenses I got weren't an exact fit to the stock. I sort-of had to make them fit, but all-in-all, I'd probably still buy them.

Thanks for the quick response, but I was wanting to put the halogen bulbs in the "new fog light"/old stock blinker, I already ordered amber led's for the corner lights, I'm just going to swap the wires so the stock blinerks stay on all the time and the corner lights become the new blinkers. Thanks again

They may get a little too hot for that housing... besides the blinker housing is not designed to reflect light like a fog light would... I would just stick with the normal 1157 for the look and get some real fog lights

I wouldn't put a halogen bulb that's 50%+ more wattage (heat) than the stock bulb in the corners or the bumper housings.

thanks, for the response, but like i said i dont really want any additional light on/in the bumper. good point about the blinker housing not made to reflect lightas well as a head lamp or fog light, i might have to add some reflective heat resistant tape... lol i will make this work, one or the other. My main concern is with the heat from the bulbs, if anyone has any experience with them

Oh okay, didn't see that you said you didn't want any additional fog lights.
If you really want to make a project out of getting some fogs into those bumper locations, I almost think you'd do better trying to get some real fogs and modify them to fit that location.
Those little bumper housings are thin, flimsy plastic and are not at all designed for constant, high wattage lighting. I don't know that some reflective/heat shielding tape is going to do it for you.
By all means, give it a shot, and post some pics of your work. If you're able to fab up a functional fog into the bumper turn signal housing, that'd be a cool mod to have posted here.

Ok thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate all your help and responses! That why I love this site, I didn't really want to modify the bumper, the PO painted the truck and in the process decided to paint the bumper and even the valance the samp color, it looks good but I didn't want fool with it really... But looks like I have a project now!

To get started, go get some good measurements and pics of your stock lights and mounting holes/brackets. You likely won't find something that will bolt up perfectly. You'll probably have to find something that fits the dimensions of and looks good in the bumper hole first, then work on mounting them. So, get some dimensions on your stock lights and let's go from there.

One possible avenue would be to sacrifice your turn signal lenses and housings to use as mounts for aftermarket lights. You know, paint the orange lens to match the bumper and poke a hole through the center for the new lights...
