Grrrr...another Frankenstein question...

I started looking for an elocker from some salvage yards, and while looking around, I noticed that salvage yards had two different axle shafts for the 4runner. One for the 15" wheels, and one for the 16" wheels. (my 4runner came with 15" wheels)

So, it sure seems like there is a difference between the 15" and 16" axles.

Does anyone know what is different? (shaft diameter, splines...etc...) And does this difference make an elocker installation harder to do (or impossible with the 15" shafts)!

Finding this info seems a lot harder than it should be.

Once again, thanks for your input.

Todd

PS: I'll try the local Toyota parts department again, but they were pretty useless when I was asking about the elocker fit.

I've never heard of any such difference.... I'm assuming your talking about a 3rd gen 4runner? I don't recall ever having heard of different shafts as far as spline count or length or diameter...

sorry this is kinda a useless reply but you might just want to double check how accurate they are when they say there are two separate shafts...

There is no difference. The e-locker 3rd will fit in any 8" diff with modification, and the axle shafts are the same diameter. I put a TRD E-locker in the front axle on my 4runner.

Good luck finding an e-locker in SD junkyards. I looked for a while, and gave up.

Thanks for the info...

by the way, I found a good site to search some salvage yards (not all of them, but at least some across the country): car-part.com
I thought it worked pretty well...I did find a couple current elockers in SD, but they aren't the gear ratio I am looking for. (I want 4.56, they were 4.10).

Anyways, it is at least good to hear you had success and you think that the elocker will fit into any 8" diff (with the axle housing mods).

Supposedly, there are 4.56 e-lockers out there, but I've yet to come accross one. I'm just going to re-gear the one from my donor Taco from 4.10 to 4.56 and put it on my truck.
