Got my Blackstone Lab results back (UOA)
Ok, first of all, I have to disclose that I am a big idiot. When I was draining the oil, I couldn't find the oil sample container or any other clean container, so it all went into the oil drain bucket. The bucket was empty, but it still probably had residue from other oil changes. Yeah, yeah, I'm stupid. But I sent it in anyway. Here is the result of the analysis.
Again, I don't know if some of the higher copper that they're seeing is from this oil or residue from another. (Again, just pissed at myself ).
I am currently running Royal Purple 5w-30 with Puralator PureONE filter. I will also send this in at ~9,000 miles to see how they compare. I will probably send in a sample at 7,000 mile mark, too. I will post the results in this thread when I get the results back.
For info on how to get your own tests done, go to www.blackstone-labs.com

Glad to hear that your results are good!
Unfortunately mine were not so spectacular. I'm now trying to find an intake leak as the source of silicone in my oil. More on the BITOG forum:

Mtn Mike, what kind of air filter/intake system do you have? People with K&N (and the like) reusable air filters have reported back with higher than normal silicone contents.
hector - the UOA is $22.50 (IIRC).

I have the OEM intake and OEM Toyota filter; no mods. When I inspected it, I did find one ring clamp slightly loose, but I don't know if it was loose enough to let a lot of dirt in.
Also it's worth mentioning that it was my first run with synthetic, and it's a new vehicle to me. Hopefully my next UOA will show improvement.
Like yours, I hear that these 3.4L engines generally show great UOA's.

Maybe you accidentally dropped in an old type of penny that used to be solid copper during the previous oil change?
Though the universal average is 5, you got 14. That's probably more like 2 pennies.
You got 0 for nickel though, so no nickels went in, so that's good! You should have it tested for quarters though. Those are big and can cause problems.

My copper was higher than that after only 3500 miles:

That's an interesting thought. I purchased th 4R last summer and have put 8000 miles on it. Before that, I have no idea what recent service had been done. I wouldn't think that seal/gasket replacement would be too common on a 3.4L with 100K miles. I don't see any signs of major service. All I can do is turn in another sample and see how it goes.

Mtn. Mike - When I switched to synthetic, I ran some Valvoline Syn for about 3,000 miles to "flush" out the system. I don't know if that did anything, but it made sense in my head. Hopefully, your next sample will turn out better.
goat - Did you ever figure out what caused the high copper count?

That may have helped some. I know the Amsoil flush gets it out of there before using, it works good. Getting it out of the bucket shouldnt hurt to much as long as it was really clean. Thats not very many miles on the 5-30, more than most tho. Did you have any previous tests?
Merry X-Mas.....err......I mean, Happy Holidays?......
