got me a magnaflow
Just wanted to thank you all for the suggestions on this board. I ended up finally(as I originally got the 18" body) with the right magnaflow. I ended up with the 24" body(the largest, I know what your all going to say) and it is awesome. Definetly feeling a lot better acceleration now and not loud. I just wanted it for the performance aspect and not the noise. I know there is disagreement to what is actually going on. How many actually believe it increases your net HP, or does it just free up the potential HP of the engine itself through preventing backflow/depreesion/some wording like this?
Thanks
David
Also, I posted on the For Sale conference the 18" body magnaflow, offset, 2 1/4" pipes. Item 11255 for $80 which includes shipping(seeing that it will cost itself a pretty penny being 17lbs.)
Thanks
David

HEy dhancali,
I currently have the short body Magnaflow and need to replace it asap. Exactly how quiet is the longer one in comparison? I don't care if it sounds stock at this point, that's how sick I am of listening to my current setup. I drove home from work yesterday in a friggen blizzard for two hours and had to travel at a slow speed. Slow speed + 14" Magnaflow = low RPM's = the most obnoxious, deafening drone. Mine is a 2 1/2" which probably contributes to the problem.

Well,
Like I put up, I have the 18" body, offcentered(less noiser than center/center), 2 1/4" pipes. To me its loud, but I can just imagine a 14". I just wanted a quiet, stock-like sound with the performance. Everyone here says that the 20" body sound like stock, so if you want something just a little louder, than my 18" is what you want.
Also, I do have the stock Toyota 2001 muffler which only has 11,000 miles usage.
I will sell either or. I will see if I can get a picture for you to see it.
Email me.

I don't want to go back to a restrictive stock muffler. I am going to order a new Magnaflow once i decide between the 18" and 20". You said your 18" is just a little louder than stock. What exactly is a little? When you are cruising at 45-50 mph at around 1700 RPM, is there any drone/resonance at all?
I like the way mine sounds when it is cold but when it warms up, it gets out of hand.

The 18" has a drone around the 1500-2000rpm range. I personally think it is loud for my taste at least. But compared to what others have, 14", it would be considered quiet. If you liked the stock sound, go for the biggest you can get and off centered. Let me know if you are inerested in my 18" body. It only has 300 miles on it.

I want no drone, so the 18" is not for me. Thanks anyways. So you have the 24" and it sounds like stock and has no drone? If that's the case, I am going to walk across the street from my work right now and order the 24". Dave, I'm counting on you. No pressure though!

Magnaflow transplant
Installed the 24 incher yesterday! It is huge in comparison to the 14 inch one. Just barely fit.
The sound is just right! It is tamer than the shorter muffler but still has some bite. In my opinion, the interior decibals were almost cut in half.
For those who say the long Magnaflows sound like stock, they are wrong. I rode in a friends stock 98 4Runner a few weeks ago and I can't hear the exhaust at all. Mine is not like this. I am very happy with the 24" muffler and I think it is a good match for the 3.4L.
I will be submitting a new sound clip for Corey's exhaust web page in the near future.
Thanks for helping me out with my decision Dave!

Stango and David,
You guys gained some HP, but do you feel like you lost some torque? That was my previous experience when I installed a Dynomax on my 99.
Sounds like the 24" Magnaflow is like the Dynomax in terms of sound.
How much did you guys pay for the 24" MF and the install?
And last question: dhancali, where are you in CA? If you are in the LA area, I'd like to meet up w/ you and hear your set up.
Thanks,
Bob

Bob-
Yes. I'm actually from Glendale, but I'm currently in Atlanta GA in college. Unfortunately my '01 4runner is here in Atlanta and will be given to my little sis(who is also here with me in college) as I graduate in a few months. No, worries as my other 4runner's lease is about to end and I'm thinkin about the '03 V8 4.7L

Not a prob there. I'm stoked your happy with it. Is it just me, or does it feel like you get a little more acceleration with the bigger body?

I paid $89 for the 24 inch and had the install done in exchange for my 14" MF(worked it out with the mechanic). When I had the 14" installed I paid $80 for the muffler and $40 for the install complete with custom welded brackets.
