the church thing really has naught to do with it. what gets me is the idea that if your best friend backs into your rig it's no big deal, but if some stranger backs into your rig you're going to do everything in your power to get a freaking ARB out of them. ...<snip>...the point is, being a jerk after a collision is no way to deal with anyone - they probably already feel pretty bad..

I'm glad you're doing it like that. I "rear ended" a lady one time. It was a scuff on her bumper. She freaked out and insited in calling the cops and everything.
In the end it cost me $30 to get my paint buffed off her bumper and 130 to get out of my ticket.
It's always nice to have karma on your side when you do the right thing. Maybe next time when it's your fault the people won't be s. But good luck on that.

Very cool of you to not take them to the cleaners. They owe you a replacement, nothing more. I wish people would be honest like this more often. Insurance would hardly be necessary if people just owned up to their crap.

+1 to that. Or when someone says they're going to take care of it and then never does. Thankfully I found a cheap taillight for my little sisters car and she lived with the dent in the fender. It matched the one on the other side.

I was worried that they may not have insurance (they did, i checked the policy #) or that it was no good (it was good)
She got three estimets for repairs average was $4300 she sent copies of this and he sent a check for $4300 (this was a college kid too) It seems to me if you pay over 4k out of your pocket just to avoid rate hikes, something is wrong.
I must admit i was surprised to see that check in the mail, I figured no community college kid would be able to pony up $4300 for some dent's and scratches.

a couple weeks ago me and a couple friends were coming down from the mountain in a 2WD comanchee, we turned going about 5mph but still slid sidways. The guy behind us recognized this and stopped to wait for us to turn around a little bit to get to the turn so we were out of the middle of the road. The guy 2 cars back aparently thought that the snow and ice covered rain was really a race track though and blew past the stopped car into the other lane and nailed us without even looking first.
When i went over to their car (i wasnt the one driving) the guy was thowing things and screaming and swearing and kicking his car and whatnot. He started waving his arms around at me and walking towards me and i thought for a second i might have to knock him out. Either way, we were totaly calm about it, though the accident was really both our faults because our truck was in the middle of the road aftarall. Regardless the cop attending saw his attitude compared to ours and after it was all said and done they took full responsability.
Patients pays off.

jus to clear up
the pic of the car with the broken windshield - it wasnt because the passenger wasnt wearing his seatbelt its because the aribag comes out with so much force through the dash that the dash part that breaks of breaks the windshield thats why there is a lil oval wher the top of the break off piece is not because someones head hit the windshield!!!!!

I haven't been involved in an accident in a long time but from past experience I will always file a police report unless the person who caused the accident has cash in hand to pay for the damage.
I was rear ended probably 10 years ago and my cheap chrome bumper was bent to hell. I played nice, got dude's info and a promise that he would pay me $200 to replace the bumper. Never saw that money, needless to say.

Yeah. You don't have to call the cops if it was a non-injury accident. If you call them, at least here someone will be getting a ticket. It sucks even if nothing really happened. You can always go a file a police report and no ticket issued.
linuxrunner - WOW. I wonder if there was something shady or the kids parents had enough money to keep him from getting from losing his licence.

I have a chrome bumper for CHEAP...
I have a chrome bumper off of my '98 that I will ship to you for cheaper than it would cost to get another one at a shop...it's just sitting in my garage. PM me and we can make this happen. Integrity to some is only worth the price of a bumper 'repair', to others it is worth far more than that. Good job bro!
