Gear slipping out of first sometimes, already changes bushing

New to the site. I recently Bought a beater truck and it’s slipping out of first gear when I slightly start to accelerate. Doesn’t always do it but about 50% of the time. I already changed the shifter bushing, it looked like it was in perfect condition so maybe the person I bought it from just did it too to try to fix the issue? Either way it didn’t fix any of it when I just changed it out. Once it slips out, it makes it harder to shift into the next gear, I sometimes have to push kinda hard to force it into the next gear. Not very mechanically incline but have my uncle who can help fix the issue once I determine what it is. Also, this truck was rallied pretty hard it looks like, and the person I got it from said the tranny was just rebuilt, no paperwork. So who knows if that’s true or how well of a rebuild it was.

Physically poping the shifter out of 1st gear on its own is caused by worn bearings and syncros inside the tranny causing the shafts that the gears/syncros run on to move when under load putting pressure on the synchro to pop out of position, chances are someone didn't change syncros as they are difficult to diagnose by looking at them and very expensive. Lots of things can cause this to happen, this can happen over time due to wear, fluid maintenance or lack there of, also if the clutch is not adjusted and bled correctly and you keep forcing shifts, or the pedal mech is worn out bent or broken, bent clutch fork, sticky throwout bearing, broken clutch spring, and forcing it in and out of gear will also cause more issues to quickly arise if any of the later items are not addressed in a timely manner. looks like you digging into the wrong area IMO. So it sounds like you have 2 issues, worn 1st gear synchro or bearings, and improperly operating clutch mechanism as it should go into 2nd gear without force. Also list the truck year, package and model, perhaps others have a similar experience with this same set up, my 4R is Auto so no direct experience., but I have rebuilt a few AWD Mitsu Manual trans with success

Thanks for the info. It’s a 97 Tacoma 3.4l 4wd manual. It goes into gears fine u til it slips out and then after that it’s harder to put them into gear.

It could also be a clutch slave issue(air in the line/adustment issues), or clutch pedal mechanism and related components by that description if it comes and goes, so I guess I'm no help really. But shifter poping out of 1st under load indicates synchro or related component issues to me.
