you need to get a new stereo. preferrably one that lets you select different colors. mine does, it's a Kenwood, check out my site for it. I can do blue lighting with red buttons. the clock doesn't bother me that much, 1. because I could just unplug it since I have one in the stereo and 2. because the OEM clock stands out since it's green so it's easier to read.

You can take the clock apart and use lighting gels to alter the color.

New LED's

There is a lot of awesome info on this post...and I am now thinking of replacing all of my lights to LED's. I'm going to start with the exterior, but am unsure what colors to get.

Example: Brake lights (I have a 97 SR5 4Runner)
For those of you who know more about the basic principles of light (light gurus), would I need to get red LED's or would clear work better? i.e. The lens is red, so according to the properties of light, it would filter out everything but the red, in turn emitting a bright red light. Is this true, or would a clear lens work best? Would this priciple be considered for each color light, i.e. amber, clear and red?

Thanks for your help!
Anthony

I tried a complete color change on my first gen, the AC controls can be done to match the gauges, but the clock and the switches cannot have the green removed.

Hop ethis helps everyone wanting to do this. Kinda pricey, but you'll have to judge how much is your time worth.

cool chuck.

I picked up some expensive "double brightness" bulbs and some blue condoms I'm going to try before plunking for the leds. I should get that done this week sometime.

You can take the clock apart and use a theatrical lighting "gel" to change the color. We used to this all the time with radios back in the day (car audio day, that is).

what is theatrical lighting gel?where can i find this stuff? i tried taking my clock apart and painting the lens with a red sharpie. but it turned out horrible so i took it off, will the lighting gel make the clock look more stock, just a different color like red?

Let me dig and see if I have any with a manufacturer name on it. I haven't looked for it for ages. We just used it to change the color of things like clocks, radio displays, and digital dashes (vacuum fluorescent displays)

I think you can get he swatch kit form Roscolux for free.

http://www.rosco.com/us/index.asp

It's what I used behind my HVAC controls.

i suppose those can work, but i just got my bulbs at auto zone. they have the 194r's in red also, i have done the red cluster mod in my runner it looks like bmw guages but i like the amber more over the red. the cluster requires 4 194r bulbs.
