Yeah they do have them, I've got a '95 and its got an airbag in it. No passenger airbag but I'll have one in a wreck.

I really wish I hadn't read this post, now I'm gonna drive like a grandma!

This is true.

I've seen some pretty nasty accidents, never actually been in a bad one though. But I notice that when you actually witness an accident, rather than drive up on the scene 30 minutes later and see all the carnage, it really sticks in your head, especially when fatalities are involved. I have really slowed down my driving because of it. Its scarey to think how easy/quick something really bad could go wrong while driving.

And on the subject of Airbags, Im looking in my 1995 Toyota 4Runner owners Manual and airbags aren't listed any where in this thing. So Im not so sure about this. Unless you guys got one that was manufactured late in 1995 and they put them in some of the newer 1995's?

That pic looks just like my Runner, but I still don't think there's an air bag in thar! Not a word in my owners manual about one, and all I see is a 'Yota logo and a horn emblem. Are you guys certain there's an air bag in there?

Well... there's a couple ways to find out. Either we need to have someone haul arse and plow into something or cut it open. Who's game?

I think someone needs to haul arse and run into a wall. And then show pics!!

That would be great.

You think a frame (especially an older one like a 2nd gen) is safer than a modern unibody? A frame is much stiffer than a unibody and that stiffness transfers energy to a human body pretty well and then break it. A unibody will soak up all that energy much like race cars are designed.

Regarding airbags...
That steering wheel looks just like my non-airbag 93. I've never seen or heard of a 2nd gen with an airbag. Normally, you can see the seams in the steering wheel plastic where the airbag will deploy. I don't see those in the picture. And no, the crease going around the edges is not it.

You know... I don't think there is an airbag in there after all!

Just don't tell my insurance adjuster that. They got me down as having a driver side airbag. It was that way in their specs. It was even sold to me at a Toyota dealer stating it had a driver side airbag. I'm kinda relieved, though. I always dreaded getting smaked in the face just because I got in an accident...

In the issue of consumer reports i read, which was printed somewhere in 1995 i think, it has it listed as having no airbags what-so-ever, so no, that ain't an airbag... it might feel soft but it won't blow up in your face anytime soon.

I find it conforting that there would be no airbag in some situations...because i've heard of people getting in little 15mph crashes and having a huge baloon expand at a rate of 100-200 mph toward their face...it's just unnessicary IMO for that slow of a crash.

I think it will be fine for me to get one now that someone mentioned that it's kidna comparing the no-airbag SUV to all the airbag-equipped ones. The Nissian pathfinder also got a terrible rating.

BUT, i would like to ask, why did the drivers side get the WORST possible rating, while the passenger side got the BEST possible rating...with no airbags... i'm beginning to wonder if maybe the steering coulmn is the culprit?

what do you think? I'll post what other trucks/cars got the bad results and see which don't have airbags...
