Unfortunately mine is the same way as well If I go only until the light comes on, its a 13 gallon fill up. However, after my recent road trip, I found I could get 15-16 gallons in it if I drove a bit past the light I ended up getting about 290-300 a tank at best. Now, sometimes it'll come on at 12, and sometimes at 14, so I definately need to get it into the dealership.

we usually do about 250 without the light, I fill up around the 1/4 mark, i'm not sure how much we'd get if we drove it to the light. We also use Freedom fuel additive, if that makes any difference....but don't let my other half hear me say that :o)

david - i realy give the gas right to my truck, on my last tank i went 250 down to the E, and the gas light didnt go on. i filled up and it was 16 gals, so i must've had 2 left. so i probably could've gotten close to 300 on one tank....... with my hubs locked and about 250 lbs in the back. i guess taco's just get better gas mileage than 4runners... and also i have a 5spd 4cyl.

I am not gently on the gas, when i'm the freeway i'm going at least 60-70 usually i'm late for something and i'm in a rush....hehe my boyfriend is easier on the gas than I am because he's been in more accidents than I have and he knows that if he wrecks the runner he's going to have some broken limbs... :knock on wood:

Ive got a 2000 4Runner Ltd. with just under 60,000 miles so I know I wouldn't be getting this TSB thing for free. My question is: I dont really care all that much if the low-fuel light is kicking on early. However, could this possible cause any further problems and in what other ways would getting it fixed help me. Like I said, I dont care about it misreading the tank a little bit, so is there any other reason why I should spend atleast $50 on it?

Just an update:
I had the TSB repair on the fuel sending unit last week and it made a big differance. I know my tank doesn't hold more fuel than before, but now at least it reads correctly.
Before the repair, it had all the symptoms the TSB stated. It would come off of FULL quick and when the low fuel light would come on, I could never put more than 14.5 gallons in.
Now....it's stays on FULL for about 50-60 miles before barely moving and when the light comes on now, it takes 16.5 gallons to fill.
So....basically, before the repair. When I had the light come on I must of had about 4 gallons still in the tank versus 2 gallons. I got about 260+ miles on the 16.5 gallons when the light came on. It used to come on when I put about 200-225 miles. Since it's reading correctly now and the light doesn't come on for a couple days longer, I don't have to refuel as much.
I recommend anyone with this problem to get it repaired. Even though I'm not getting any better milage, it feels like I am because of not having to refuel as much.
