Gas Mileage on 2000 4Runner

Not sure about you 4cyl guys but I'm getting 15MPGs. You'll have to consider I'm running 31" tires and have not had anything as far as calibrations or regearing to calculate it properly. As far as mods go then search for deck plate mod, ISR mod, and MAF cleaning procedures. From what many here say don't waste your money on chips or tuning programs.

Thanks. I will check those out... My last vehicle was an 02 VW Golf, it originally got about 21 in town and 25-27 on the hwy depending on average speed. I put Pulstar plugs on it and the mileage increased to a consistent 24 in town and as high as 33 hwy (again, depending on average speed and driving conditions). I have read a lot of horror stories from 3rd parties saying don't install them, but with my own personal good experience I am seriously considering it. Has anyone actually had experience with pulstar plugs in their Toyota?
I know a lot of people think "a spark plug is a spark plug is a spark plug" and they would be right. The difference with pulstar is the tech. Its not a spark plug, its a pulse plug.
Also, I read that NGK wires are good? And does anyone know if installing an aftermarket air intake actually improves mileage?

Botton line here, FILL the tank. After the first click on the nozzle give it one more squeeze. Reset your trip odometer. Drive it as was mentioned, 200 miles. Refill the same way. do this at least 2 more times and figure your gas milage and then averge those 3 tanks and get a real world idea of your true milage. Most 3rd gens will get anywhere from 16 upwards of 22 mpg depending on how you drive and the condition of your rig (plugs, wires, filter, mods etc) Seems every single gas gauge is an "individual". when I fill my tank it seems to take at least 4-5 minutes before it reads FULL. If you figure 15 gallons is what I have in the tank then you can go at a minimum 150 miles @ 10 mpg and you should be getting way better then that!

Not sure about you guys but I have been keeping track of my MPG for the past 5 years online at www.fueleconomy.gov. I have been averaging 18-19 mpgs

I just did a trip from Denver to Moab. My first tank from Denver to Grand Junction I got 24.9 mpg (adjusted for the 3% change in tires). The rest of the trip I was getting ~18-19, on the highway. While wheeling? closer to 10-12. This was with a weeks worth of camping gear and wheeling equipment.

Winter gas I get 18 MPG, summer gas gives me 22 MPG.
This is consistent even with the fuel pressure regulator stuck at 45 PSI. The oxygen sensor does a good job at telling the ECU to cut back on fuel.

I have been recording my mileage since 2-8-08 until now and I have found that the overall average is 18.1517mpg. It has been getting worse lately but I think that stems from a higher percentage of city driving. All in all not too bad.

Just how are you figuring your mileage ??
I don`t think I ever checked mine very seldom to I let it drop below 1/2 a tank I hate to have to put more then 10 gallons in at a time.

I fill the tank up and reset the odometer. Run the tank dry and then fill back up. Divide my miles by gallons I put in. I have done this with every single tank and it holds 15.5 gallons and gets 205 miles. Been the same every time

There is also the possibility that the gauge itself is malfunctioning, My 97 LTD would work from full to 3/4 then just drop to 1/4. I ended up changing out the entire cluster it its worked fine ever since.
