G58 trans swap for w56
I have another thread asking basically the same question but since it is so off topic from where its started i decided to give it a fresh start. I own a 93 4runner and 2 '87 4runners for parts. The 93 has a g58 tranny and reverse is completely shot. I was wondering if anybody knows if i take out the g58 and the t-case, will a w56b and its stock t-case bolt up to the motor. I know i might have to cut up some of the floor to get the shifters through but the question is will it actually work, ie will it be the right length and actually be compatible with the motot. From what i have read the other g series trans can replace the w series but not the g58 because of the chain driven t-case, but if i take the w56 with its stock t-case can it replace the g58 and its stock t-case?

the only reason W56/G52/G54 transmissions aren't generally compatible with the G58 is because of its funky 26 spline output, so the transfer case is unique to the tranny as there's no other 26 spliners.
however, the trannies are all compatible across the R series engines(20R, 22R, 22RE etc), so you'll have no problems swapping in a W56. they should be the same length as well. late(89-95) W56 transmissions have a forward-shift style transfer case so they might even pop right into your shifter holes in the floor as well.
