A funny "ting" noise

Hey Guys. I want to know if this is a tranny or drive line issue. I can't seem to locate the noise. I have a auto trans and everytime I put it into reverse or drive I hear a distinct "ting" sound. Sometimes I hear it when I'm off or on the throttle. I just want some ideas here. Maybe somebody has had this issue before and can chime in. Oh I have a 2000 Prerunner w/3''lift V6.

Tanks'

check your u joints, i had the same sound, when i changed the load on the driveshaft, 1st to rev. for example it would "ting" about a month of it doing this my rear u joint ate up its needle bearings in one cap, replaced the u-joint and all was well, also excessive play in the slip yoke can cause the same noise. BTW after i started hearing the noise i greased the crap out of the joints, but it was too late for that one

OEM U-joints are the strongest, this is a well know fact. But you might just need to grease them, make sure to use moly grease.

M1 grease works well and i get the ting noise also esp on an incline and in park. i would shift it to reverse and get a ting, back up, then slip it in drive and i get ting. to me its not a ujoint deal. make sure your brake pedal is pushed down and the truck is stopped before you change gears.. thats helped mine from tinging. i think some of it is a binding issue. i just dont see how the u joint or the slip yoke has to do with a ting that comes from under your gear stick... btw i grease my shafts once every other oil change with syn grease M1.
