"The 4 pieces of 3/4" tube equal a total inner diameter of 3""

Wow this guy is dense.

The only thing that I have considered trying is taking a stock lexus ls400 intake tube and somehow trying to make it fit into both the hood scoop and the airbox. On the lexus, the tube is mounted over the radiator and is flat at the very front, it doesn't go into the fender like on ours. It looks like the perfect shape for the scoop. But then I thought if I was going to do all of that work i mind as well just swap out the whole engine. I think i could put a 300hp V8 VVTi to some practical use if it was in my 4 runner.

That car scares the crap out of me.

Yes, that was particularly scary since that statement defies all mathematical law. Being an engineer, and even as an electrical one at that, I could tell you without actually doing the math that you wouldn't increase the diameter by 4 because you used 4 tubes of the same size. Sure if you used 3/4"x3" square tubing you'd get the same effect, but to spend that much on parts and only have a 1.5" tube of air running across your engine seems bad.

I think the guy should give away the runner since he apparently doesn't deserve the privelage of driving a 'yota and get himself a Geo or even a F*rd

This would work, although you'd have to incorporate a drainage system to prevent water from entering the actual air box and moistening the filter..., and the engine swap would also work, and then some!

ok im finished laughing my a$$ off at the straws. no im not.
i think it would get another 2HP if he stuck them up his nose and had his head out the window.

why not just open the scoop? if the deck mod or FIPK has been done, wouldn't that help? has anyone done it?
cooler air flooding the engine compartment, removing heat?

well i did it. took off 4 bolts removed the scoop. drilled out the 2 rivets and removed the screen and "black background" piece. cut out the back of the scoop (rotozip) and filed it smooth (scratched the ˟˟˟˟˟ out of the front base like an idiot). found 2 nice black screws with nylon hardware and reinstalled the repainted black screen. reinstalled the scoop piece, time about 2 hours. looks the same unless your at the bumper, no pics.
results=3000HP gain results? probably wasted 2 hours and the scoop. shoulda used 4 straws, 2 on each side. any ways it is open and will probably let in more dirt (water, etc...) into the bay. as its flow directly over the throttle linkage, i will try make an aluminum deflector for it. i noticed it does let out a lot of heat after a long drive.
