Fuel System Issues, HELP
Hey guys, after leaving my neighborhood under WOT trying to get into rush hour traffic this evening. I felt a laggging sensation, like a mis-fire, or tranny skip. Two minutes down the road, I came to a stop light where my Runner shut off and the check engine light came on. The truck would not turn back on, it sounded as if it was flooded, and had a bogged down, stuttering sound. I managed to limp the truck off the main road and test a few things before getting my dad to meet and tow me home.
This is on a 97 LTD Runner(4x4 Auto), I can hold the throttle to the floor and the truck does nothing but stall or stutter, then rev high and stall again. It seems to be an issue of not getting fuel to the engine and then getting a burts before it dies. What could this be, ANY help or suggestions are appreciated.

Hmm,
That sounds like what I experienced when I had water in my gas -- bad gas. The paper gas filter would swell up from absorbing the water. After letting it sit a few minutes, the water would disperse back into the gas, and the cycle would repeat itself when I tried starting and driving again. Only thing is, I don't think 4Rs have paper gas filters. I would remedy the situation by pouring in a can of gas line drier.
Could be other things, like maybe check the operation of your fuel pump also?
Good luck!

I have already gone through half a tank since last I filled up and nothing has even seemed wrong, is this something that could just pop up like this or is that a tell tale sign of something else?
